Per our conversations yesterday Arlo went the long way around for that giggle.

Last time I bought one online (well, a card of three, back in February) they came in a modest envelope-style package. There have been exceptions, but of late I’ve found Amazon here in the UK have been a lot better on packaging.

(Bought online because there’s a particular peeler – Kuhn Rikon – I like, and the local shops tend not to stock them. They don’t last for ever – the blades REALLY don’t like my wife putting them through the dishwasher, and we seem to manage to throw them away by accident every so often – but at a couple of quid apiece they’re still a brilliant piece of kit.)

Except the peelers they sell at the grocery store aren’t very good and don’t stay sharp for very long. You’re better off going to a restaurant supply store.

He’ll be seeing online ads for potato peelers every few minutes for the next week or two, just in case he’s a potato peeler collector.

The last three packages I got (shoes, toy, clothing) were in plastic bags, no cardboard.

And yet, deliveries go to the market, and people drive to the market. As a professional environmentalist, I doubt there is much difference on the impact either way. Raw materials travel to processing, then to manufacturing, then to delivery centers, and finally to their end destination. Science measures efficiency against absolute zero temperature. Life just isn’t very efficient.

This will all disappear when Samsung perfects their replicator. Need a potato peeler? It’ll zap one together for ya.

I check Amazon and my grocery for a lot of things. I find Amazon sometimes to be cheaper. And those of us who know (meaning who actually cook) know that there are barely adequate peelers and really good peelers, and the grocery rarely has the good ones.

How can a couple be married for years and not own a vegetable peeler? Most of us have owned one for decades.

At $5.00 a gallon for gas you saved; maybe not the environment, but you definitely saved….

I bought a Made In USA can opener on Amazon because the only ones I could find in the store were made in China. The USA made one is so much better.

I have another question/statement if you don’t mind. I hear SO many people putting the government down but are still living in the USA. and they elect all these people to work in government positions who are also always putting down the government, and use it as their platform during election time and DO everything in their power to be elected to these government positions they put down. why put the government down when the people you elect are the ones running the government, who work against whoever is President and do everything to keep REGULAR (Not the Rich or The Big Corporations or big lobbyist) people down, and in debt, while they have big homes, cars, vacation homes and trips off of GOVERNMENT money. what am I missing? what am I not understanding? thank you

This is just too pathetic and unfortunately too real. I know people that you have to pry them out of their homes because everything they need can be delivered. I guess I’m old but I would rather go and pick out the merchandise, especially groceries, myself. And yes, I do order some stuff online.
