Online is convenient, but I like to actually see what I am getting, to poke it, to try it on, to feel how heavy it is, and see how well made it is.

I online shop all of the time. First I check to see if a brick and mortar near me has what I want in stock. If they don’t then I have it shipped.

If you think about it online shopping is kind of like the old Sears and Roebuck catalog instead of looking at it on the computer you would look through the catalog then call and place your order and it would be delivered

The future is exciting and grim all at the same time… much as the past has been to many that went before us. I long for the day that clothing is no longer necessary. Humans are the only animals that clothe themselves. How insane is that?

Actually, I find them super-competent. It’s usually here the next day. But what happens when they’re a virtual monopoly? And what happens when there are almost no jobs requiring physical labor?

I remember in the ‘70s we were taught that clothes would be made that would never need cleaning. I’m still waiting for that one.

Sears, Montgomerly Ward, and Penneys essentially invented online shopping, and look at them now.

OH the good old days when you could buy guns from the Sears catalog … in Canada. P.S. You could also buy a house in the same catalog.

I hate doing grocery shopping online. I want to pick out my vegetables and meat. We had to use online shopping a few years back when we both had covid (the first time). Ordered and paid for about $150 worth of groceries. We received about $60 worth and that includes the 1 bag of stuff that wasn’t ours.

With Canada Post it takes two weeks to send a parcel across the country, while Fedex does it in one day.

Please allow 6 to 8 weeks for processing and delivery. Took forever to get that toy after sending in the cereal boxtops.

Actually, I find that about half of what I buy from Amazon arrives the next day and sometimes the same day. And almost all of the rest is here in two days. And the number of things arriving in one day is steadily increasing. This week, I ordered a washing machine drain pump and got it in a day. And a replacement speed control pedal for my wife’s sewing machine, also arriving in a day. And neither item can be found locally.

Don’t talk to me about supporting brick and mortar. I buy many things from Amazon because my grocery store doesn’t carry them. That included some basics like dog and cat food. Amazon has it here in one day. I will set out in a couple of hours to pick up my grocery order for the week at curbside. I spend less that way, and they will tell me if anything is out of stock, and I can call and adjust if I don’t like their chosen substitute. I will actually go inside today for the first time in years, because I have a $25 gift card from them for participating in a survey, and I can’t use it curbside.

Some years ago (before Amazon) I lived in a small town with a Sears catalog store. You ordered something and about 2 weeks later it would show up. The alternative, you drove 2 hours to the big city.

We have two Amazon warehouses in our city and I can order in the morning and get it that afternoon, most of the time. Why waste my gas and time to go shop.

I see 3 disadvantages to online shopping:

    1. You can’t inspect the goods for QA & suitability for the intended purpose.

    2. Shipping charges add to the cost.

    3. If you pay through the nose for express shipping & order it early enough in the day you can get it tomorrow, but if you need it today/right now you are out of luck.

It’s really nice to be able to sit in the furniture before you buy it, or to have someone explain a warranty. It’s nice to be able to try on clothes and see how they look and what they are made of. Good luck finding out the return policy.

Understand we are getting old so we get cold. We sleep with 2 blankets at night to stay warm. In the fall we found this was not enough and added the two twin bed blankets we have (since the bed they are for has only been used by “company” twice in 30 plus years) with each of us using one over the regular blankets.

We decided to buy another blanket. After a few months of looking we gave up. The blankets now are terrible and are big throws – no weight to them and they don’t hold their shape. Still using the two twin blankets on our bed over the two regular blankets.
