I was gonna say “Because he’s drawn that way”.

I mean you could literally say that about any other disney character. There’s a bit in the 2017 Ducktales where a character sees Dewie and Webby feeding the ducks at a pond. She was utterly befuddled.

Pluto is a dog and Goofy is an anthropomorphic dog. Similar and related, but not the same. Kind of like a human with a pet monkey.

Well, you asked.

Some cartoons are like that. For instance, Huckleberry Hound sometimes gets chased by non-anthropomorphic dogs.

I am trying to work it into a Florida joke, but somehow it is just not coming this morning…

I kind of expected RJ saying something about Goofy having low self esteem…

Because they’re figments of imagination, not reality.

Let’s dig up Walt and ask him.

Pluto is a “dog” while Goofy is a “Dawg”

because Goofy can speak a language that’s not just ‘dog’.

Now, I understand.

They’re both actors, with different specialties.

Consider Mickey and Minnie are mice. Mickey has a dog, which somehow is appropriately sized for a mouse, while Goofy is larger than Mickey and closer to dog size. Of course this doesn’t explain how Donald, a duck, is similar in size to Mickey.

Humans are just anthropomorphic chimps.

Why does Donald Duck wear a shirt but no pants but always wraps a towel around his waist when he gets out of the shower?

There are higher and lower primates – why can’t there be higher and lower canines? It’s not that complicated even without cartoon logic.

Goofy is a furry

Who nose? Ears to a continuing tail.

Goofy’s original name was Dippy Dawg.

Because Goofy passed the Turing test, and Pluto didn’t.

Goofy IS a dog!
