I become a centenarian every night.

Nah. I charge mine well before it hits my age.

My phone never needs charging. It seems to charge itself.

I usually wait until it gets down to 15 to 10 percent before I charge it overnight.

I’m a 50 percenter myself.

My grandchildren frequently run them down to shutoff. I see their devices lying down and put them on charge.

Decades ago, most rechargeable batteries were Ni-Cd. You wanted to wait unti the charge level was low before recharging. They had something called “Memory effect” — If you frequently charged them before the level was low, the power they delivered would drop off when it got close to the level they were “used to” being charged at.

People should know that your battery will last longer if:

1) you don’t leave it on the charger overnight, and

2) You wait to it’s around 20% before charging.

There are 2 types of people: #1 – (me) who plops my phone into the charger any time I am near one, or my battery is below 90%, “just in case I have to go out—and go on a cross-country adventure, apparently.” #2 – Hands me their phone to help fix something, and has 2% charge…and they’re still checking Instagram instead of trying to preserve what’s left until they can charge again. This second type also NEVER brings their charging cable.

li ion cells like to be stored at 50%. My phone has an option to limit the charge to 85% to extend the life, which I do. I keep a phone nine to ten years, It’s wasteful to get new ones more often than that.

Cellphone batteries last longer if they aren’t deep cycled and stay charged at about 50%. Or, just do what is convenient for you, and replace the battery when it eventually gets weak.
