Hurricane season ends in November. Which is great for me, since I live in California. Of course, wildfire season never ends here.

Being from the USA, I’ve always measured summer to be from Memorial Day, until Labor Day.

For me, summer starts the day that it’s warm enough to go to the lake and stay there all day. And ends when it gets to cold to do that. The start can be anywhere between April and June. Usually ends by September, although I am hoping this Sunday will be warm enough for a last visit.

Perspective is the difference between a wide-angle lens and a telephoto.

The equinox is not a matter of perspective – it’s fact.

Summer begins with the solstice, ends with the equinox

Well some say summer begins Jun 1, and ends August 31. Meteorological Summer.

I’ve come to prefer the pagan calendar which puts each season’s respective solstice or equinox in the middle of the season. Thus Summer begins with May Day (Beltane), peaks at Midsummer (Summer Solstice) and ends with Lammas (Aug 1).

It’s the time when you put away the lawnmower and make sure your snowblower is working. :-)

She means the solstice, around June 22, which weathermen on teevee call the ‘first day of summer.’ Which raises the question of how Midsummer Day is also right around June 22.

Where I grew up (a farming community), teachers taught kids that fall begain September first, Winter began December first, and so for four three-month seasons. That makes far more sense that the solstices and equinoces with respect to weather.

Don’t be ridiculous. Summer is the period of time when I have an air conditioner in my window.

Perspective is when the railroad tracks meet on the horizon. And most places don’t have hurricanes and tornados, so, yes, summer begins and ends at the equinoxes.

But Summer begins with a Solstice, and ends with an Equinox.

Perspective isn’t a ‘when’, it’s a what.

Summer actually starts after the June solstice!

If a teacher gives an answer that makes every student think she did an awesome job.

Nope. As a kid, it begins when the dismissal bell rings after the last class on the last day of school, and ends at bedtime on the day before the first day of school (and actually, it half-ends on the day(s) you get dragged shopping to try on new stiff tight uncomfortable school clothes). As an adult (at least for me) it begins on the first day it’s warm enough that I no longer have to put a shirt on to go running in the morning, and it ends on the last day before I once again do.
