This is so true to life of reality shows! I know someone who was in one, it is like: “Here, stand over here and look like you’re working on this machine.”
I’m guessing at some point during the evolution of this strip the creators realized there was no way to maintain its success by keeping the BC time frame. There’s only so much prehistoric fodder to play off for a laugh. So they began to inject the modern world artifacts into an obviously non-modern environment like these. I wonder what if the original strips stayed more in the BC period.
Somehow the word struggle and sabre tooth tiger don’t go together. Now if the tiger takes a liking to dinner of commentator on rye, then we’ll see struggling.
“Here we see an ant. This ant is engaged in a life or death struggle with the wolf. You can see the ant creeping up on the wolf on all sixes.”
[A moving arrow is superimposed]
“Now he stops to observe. Satisfied that the wolf has not heard him, he approaches nearer. With great skill he chooses his moment and then, quick as a limpet, with one mighty bound…”
[The arrow moves to the wolf’s throat. The wolf does not move]
“…buries his fangs in the wolf’s neck. The wolf struggles to no avail. A battle of this kind can take anything up to fifteen years because the timber ant has such a tiny mouth.”
….and there you have it ladies and gentlemen, the true beginning of the Darwin Award. Thank for tuning in and good night from all of us here at ABC news.
Is this the jungle, the mighty jungle? Does the lion sleep here tonight? Is this the jungle, the quiet jungle, where the lion sleeps tonight? Am I asking too much?

Now he’s freelance.
