“A smart dog will know right away that he hasta pick up the towel an’ pull it off the treat.” Farley may not be a smart dog, but at least he doesn’t say “hasta” or “an’”.

Maybe not intelligent, but creative – or should that be destructive?

From Lynn’s Comments: I heard about this “trial” on CBC radio. I never tried it on my dog. I liked my towels too much!

And, of course, she just leaves the towel there.

I remember watching one of those nature documentaries about how clever foxes are. There was this Arctic fox just wandering along in the snow, and all of a sudden the fox leaps 3 feet up in the air and pounces head down into the snow bank, pulling up a hidden rabbit for dinner! One of the experts say that the fox can hear the heart beats of the rabbit 2 feet below in the snow tunnel!

Foxes and dogs are distant related cousins but I haven’t see any dog the size of Farley do that.

It’s fascinating to watch the different ways animals approach things. Same with people.

My friends have two dogs. As I arrived for dinner one evening, I brought my usual treats for Zoey and Falcon. I gave Falcon, the quiet one, his. Then sat at the table, letting Zoey, the rambuncuous one, wait. She sniffed right to my pants pocket, forced her slightly pointed snout inside, retrieved the bisquit and happily chewed it down.

You cannot but help admire what Elly has been through. In these past months she has ended up unemployed, she has been pushed aside from her son’s life in favor of some girl who bags groceries for a living, and now one of Elly’s towels in ruined.

Elizabeth was not showing much common sense today. She knows better than that. It was more excusable for Aypo, who still has yet to grasp that the real world is not as how it is shown in the media. For example one strip where Elly was furious after April made a mess on the floor in comparison to a vacuum commerical where the mom cleans up the mess instantly simply saying “No problem”.

April{thinking to herself}: “I don’t know what’s going on here. On TV the mom just vacuums the mess and smiles. This means that something is wrong with my mom.”

Ellie, remember it was in the pursuit of scientific knowledge, and to that end Farley is either one very smart or very dumb dog.

The test I remember is putting a towel on a dog’s head and watching them get the towel off. I once had a 10 cent mint in a pocket of a new $200 winter jacket. The dog I had then used the Farley method to get the mint when I was at work. I wore the jacket exactly once. I had forgotten I had the mint in the pocket, or I would not have left it out and reachable.

Has Farley become a papa, yet??

I hope that GoComics won’t show the arc where April’s disobedience causes his death.

Years ago, my parents took an extended vacation. A neighbor picked up their mail, a friend came by every day to feed the cat, and once a week I stopped by to spend some time with the cat and go through their mail to make sure nothing important fell through the cracks.

Well, one day I picked up the bag of mail from the neighbor and dropped it by the front door temporarily. A bit later, I saw the cat had tipped over the bag, dug out an envelope, and torn it open. Inside the envelope was a sealed trial-sized bag of cat treats (with the cat’s teeth marks in it) my mom had sent away for! I still can’t believe she sniffed it out, isolated it from all the other mail, and opened it all on her own.

The whole family including the dog is dumber than rocks – I guessing continual exposure to Carbon Monoxide.

There is almost always another way to do things than the “most common practice”. To be fair it doesn’t always work as well, or as here has negative consequences, but there are other ways!

How do you hide treats in towels for dogs?

Simply lay out an old towel and spread out pieces of your pet’s TLC Kibble or Whole Life Dog Biscuits across the towel for a high value reward. Next, roll your towel up, hiding the treats inside. Your pet will love sniffing out the treats using their paws or nose to unravel the towel.
