This is why parents who do anything except full-time parenting have to leave the house or find child care to do it. If Newton hadn’t had time to sit under a tree, where would classical physics be?
You know, if you’re going to bring a new dog into the house when you already have an old dog, you want to make sure the age gap is not too great, for this very reason. (And yes, I know that Edgar is Farley’s improbably late in life progeny.)
There are a lot of good comments here, many f which I can relate to as a parent. Sadly enough the one that is all that shows up unless you click on all comments is the only one that shows a complete lack of understanding for what being a parent is like, both good and challenging. snsurone 76 seems to completely clueless at best.

Does anyone know of any comic-strip mothers as bad—or as stupid—as Elly Patterson??

I look in Farley’s eyes and all I see is “Help me? Please?”

Is it fair to get an energetic pup when there’s a senior pet at home?

Today’s strip is a little known example of an attempt at education for the little girl.
Canadians, like this family, recognize the word Mom or Ma as a short form for the word Mother.
Canadians would actually recognize the word Mum as a short form for the word Chrysanthemum, a flower.

I don’t think she’s bad or stupid.

I know Lynn updates these old strips for minor details. Since she is an online designer, could Ellie at least get a flat screen monitor?

I remember the first time I read this strip waaaay back in the day. Smiling now because I can understand Elly’s point of view now as an adult.

I suspect Farley is thinking, “Are you a sheepdog? I can’t see your eyes.”
