I donât mind discussing politics with someone whoâs on the same side I am but itâs still not a pleasant discussion since weâll likely only gripe about the other side and their policies and politicians. I can think of more pleasant things to talk about like cats and food!
Garfield the informed centrist who knows polotics in deph but only cares about the parts of it that effect food supply and is pro capitalist because itâs ability to produce food for every mouth, especially his. Acts uninformed but has an agenda. Arlene , pink haired socialist alley cat with a hate for the patriarchy, never stops yappin bout the patriarchy.
Whatâs with all these nightmares? Is Jim Davis trying to tell us something?
However, I have to wonder if the old theory is correct. Back around Halloween in 1989, Davis ran a week long plot where Garfield wakes up to find that Jonâs house⊠and him⊠had been abandoned. In the final strip of the week, a desperate Garfield goes into denial about his situation and everything seems all right again. The theory is that from then on, everything Garfield experiences in the strip is in his own imagination as he slowly starves to death in the abandoned house.
Iâm starting to wonder if thereâs something to itâŠ
I had a class in high school called âSpeech & Debateâ (confession: I only took it because a friend wanted to improve her public speaking & asked me to join her so that she would have SOMEONE she could focus on). There was one boy in my class who made it his mission in life to be annoying to me (no, he didnât secretly have a crush on me). One time he & I were paired up for a debate, free topic. Not wanting to be too bothered, I told him, âYou pick the topic: anything except for religion or politics.â He countered with, âBut I WANT to do either religion or politics!â The light bulb hit us simultaneously! Our topic: âPro or Con: debating religion or politics.â We got an A.
My current girlfriend, about to become my ex-girlfriend if she keeps it up,plus super Liberal. I am a middle of the road type of guy, but I will vote a straight ticket this election, because some people are becoming fanatics about this guy we have to worry about, I wonât mention names but the color of his face and hair, well, lets just say they grow them in Florida.
Like any discussion of ideas, it works if the discussion merely limits itself to what those ideas are without any opinions. Knowing what others think, even if it should be found disagreeable, helps to understand othersâ views.
That IS the worst nightmare. It really ruins it for me when some of my favorite comics start getting political. I read comics for laughs and relaxation NOT aggravation.
I wonder if Garfield ate something that didnât agree with him before he went to bed. Maybe that was that Burrito Diablo Grande. Thatâll do it every time!
âIf you have political opinions, keep them to yourselfâ, Johnny Cash in The One On The Right Is On The Left, 1966. Smart man, that Johnny CashâŠ..
Okay, thatâs a total of six comics this week where you only drew the last panel once and copied the other five for the remainder of the week. You owe us, your fans, five new panels!!!
Does anyone remember those âwere bachelors babyâ comics they made⊠ten, fifteen years ago? Either way⊠this string of nightmare comics makes me think of those in the broad strokes.
