I wonder if there is a little part of her brain that hopes he does hurt his back, just so she can say “I told you so”. Earl knows his limitations, she had her say, now let grandson and grandpa enjoy each other’s company while they are both around to do so.
This may be one of the best comics you’ve ever done. As my wife and I approach our 80s, our oldest grandson who’s 12 has already helping my wife and I get up from restaurant booths and putting on our coats.

Assuming Earl is still alive when Nelson is 15.
Concretionist about 1 year ago
Time is … odd … in cartoons. I’m pretty sure Nelson will never age another day.

I had to carry my dad a few times in his final days.

Sounds like a plan to me.

The lad will remember these times with Grandpa at odd moments later on in life and enjoy the memories. Not a bad trade.

That’s so adorable! Ralph reminds me here of my own grandpa in that he was so loving and attentive ;)

I’m 75 and I still lift weights 4 to 5 times a week plus walking plus working around the farm; hoping that no one will ever have to carry me.

But Opal, isn’t that why they created back pain medication for?

not to worry—-old cartoon characters never die- or even seem to grow older.

In cartoon years that’s, let me see, where’s my calculator, oh yeah, never.

15 is a tad to long, would have been better to go with 8 max. Some 15 year olds really start packing on the weight.

When he’s 16 and you buy him a car he might give you a ride once or twice.

I’d go for 21 Earl …… you aren’t exactly a light weight! …………..15 is still growing into weight lifting,
