I’m retired now. Worked the night shift 35 years and liked it. I still like being up at night and take long walks in the middle of the night. It seems I was meant to be a vampire but I didn’t qualify because I don’t like the taste of blood. It’s almost midnight here, getting ready to go out walking right now.
I get up with my wife for work 4,5, or 6 am. depending on what day it is. But I go back to bed after she leaves. Then get up at 7, eat and have coffee and go back to bed. 3:00 I feed the dogs and take a nap while they eat. 4:00 we go for our walk.
I’m up to see my wife off to work at 7:00, do some stuff around the house, dishes, clean the bathrooms, check for responses on GC, then take a nap around “the crack of noon”.
I’m the Ben Franklin of the family and my wife is the night owl. I joke with her about how no one would want to rob our house because there is always someone on guard duty.
I had to get up early since my early teens. Since I retired I don’t get up at the crack of dawn (or even noon). I still wake up early enough to welcome the crack of dawn (usually after breakfast and a short workout).
Someone has to fix bacon & eggs for a few thousand Marines on the base over yonder. He rides a motorcycle & every dog in the area has to tell him good morning. So, I’m up at 3 hoping to be back in bed by sunup.
I’ve always stayed up late. In retirement, I practically never retire before midnight. By that time, I’ll still have two episodes of a sitcom to watch, though I usually sleep in the middle of the last sitcom. But, in the morning, I often awake around 9 or so.
I can definitely relate to Uncle Ted however, I don’t get up at 12. I’m up at around six or seven. And another thing I really enjoy is hopping into my 2018 Nissan Sentra and going wherever I want or need to go. I also have more time to go to the gym. Plus more time for my other hobbies like DJing and building models.
Love that phrase! And once again Uncle Ted touches my heart and soul. But I didn’t realize I am so industrious for a retiree – by noon I’ve been awake for 3 hours!
After I retired, I began the habit of setting my alarm for 8 a.m. so I wouldn’t sleep until noon (even though I go to bed after midnight). Too much to do! My father warned me years ago when he retired early that when it was my turn, I’d be busier than I ever was in my day job. He was so right.
my cat Mischief passed 2 years ago, she was 22 years old, and she woke me up every morning for her breakfast at 5:30am…still wake up then and probably always will
i’m lucky if i can sleep ‘til 4 a.m., but i prefer to get up early anyway. we always smile at the locals who get revved up and ready to go by the crack of noon. i understand that everyone’s got different habits, but i still shake my head in disbelief when yet someone else starts cutting the grass at exactly 12 noon…
I am surprised Uncle Ted is willing to miss breakfast every day! One of the nice things about being retired is being able to linger over breakfast, or at least have the choice to do that.
I am an early riser. Born and raised on farm, retired Air Force, Brick Mason, retired NC State, and Pastor. Have 12 hours plus days all my life. Wife passed in March 23, so I have to keep busy. Brutus and Uncle Ted make my day.

I used to know someone who used that expression “The crack of noon.” Amusing.

I absolutely HATE having to work with other peoples hours, they’re 9 to 5! That doesn’t work with me!

I like being up at the break of daylight. Besides, if I got up that late, I’d my my Morning Joe on MSNBC.

And probably awake at midnight, 2 AM, 4 AM, … there’s a difference between being asleep and getting out of bed.

Retirement is great , huh Uncle Ted ?

I sometimes get up before dawn, but only because I went to bed early. The number of waking hours doesn’t change.

Been getting up at 5 a.m. all my life and going to bed at 10 p.m. Been retired for several years now and see no reason to change.
