Maybe Mom will be cool with what has happened, but you can be sure Dad will blow a gasket! After all, he doesn’t seem to realize that causing accidents and wrecking things builds character!!
You may remember that Hobbes said to Calvin in Tuesday’s strip, “I can be packed in five minutes”. He seems to have been proved wrong. It reminds me of the time when he said to Calvin, “Tigers are good at Math. What do these little horizontal lines mean?”
Aright, listen up! Today fugitive we’re tracking is Calvin. Age 6. Last seen with a stuff tiger. He has a rap sheet that is longer than two elementary school soccer fields, his latest charges being attempted carjacking and destruction of property involving same car. He is considered to be armed and dangerous. Lastly, he is to be taken alive at all cost! From what I understand, the fugitive’s parents desire to pass judgement themselves. Any questions? DISMISS!
When I was 15 I was listening to the CB radio in an SUV dad had brought home from work. My girlfriend and her cousin showed up, so I tried to turn the key off and remove it, but it wouldn’t come out. Gf’s cousin has her driver’s license, so she gets in and tries to remove it. Instead she manages to accidentally start the manual transmission vehicle, which proceeds to plow through the garage door and push the lawn tractor up against the kitchen wall. I headed to the woods to hide before dad got home on his motorcycle. Bad idea. He got home to the crime scene and thought someone had been hurt in the incident. Oddly, someone almost had. My younger brother had walked right in front of the vehicle moments before the carnage.
It’s so hard to cast the first stone, (as they say). Which of us hasn’t accidentally started forest fires, caused massive wrecks on the highway, or caused other national disasters? I mean which one of us, really?
“I walked down to the railroad yards to watch the trains roll by. Knew those trains would run that day but I did not know what time.”—“The Danville Girl”
Calvin should have acted totally innocent… “Car, what car? Oh, you mean our car?”… Then, Dad may rationalize that the car slipped out of Park somehow. But, like cops often say, ’The guilty usually run…"

I’m sure mom will be upset with herself instead of Calvin when she realizes that she didn’t set the emergency brake.

Too late to feel sorrow
Too late to feel pain
Calvin’s just a young hobo
Lost out in the rain
He’ll never cause trouble
So don’t have no fear
He’s just a young hobo
And he’ll soon be far away from here

Look for a railroad crossing. The freight train is what’s blocking it for the next 45 minutes.
