Baby Hammie’s favorite toy?

My daughter’s first word was “Manda”, our dog’s name.

We are all molded by our generation I guess!

I don’t remember my girls first word. I’ll have to look them up in their baby books.

TikTok is an example of ablaut reduplication.

My first word was no!

When I was a baby my grandfather – my mother’s father – lived with us. He had cancer. He wanted more than anything to hear me say “Mama” before he died. One day he was watching me while my mom took the older kids swimming at my grandmother’s house. He called: “Therese…come home quick!” I wasn’t the healthiest baby so Mom thought something was wrong. She bundled the kids & raced home. He met her at the door with a brilliant smile: “SHE SAID ‘MAMA’!” I was sitting on the floor pointing up at HIM, saying, “Mama!” (He died one week before my first birthday. It was understood in the family that I was his favorite grandchild.)

My mother told me I used to hum before saying any words. That was the noise that our refrigerator made.

Hammies first words were “buh-dozer” and "bazooka. Close Wanda, close but no cigar.

Dada is most babies’ first word because it’s easy for them to form the sounds.

My brother’s first word was “Stopthat!”

How would a not even one year old know about TikTok? Also, she grew all of her hairs and we had seen her say words years before TikTok was a thing.

I imagine Hammie saying “Furby!”

Zoe’s first full sentence was probably “I’m gonna tell.”

There’s a strip from before Tiktok (before Wren even had hair) where she said “cookie”

I can’t say I read from the beginning, but when I first read this strip, Zoe was a baby and the only child. Our local paper stopped carrying for a long time and the internet wasn’t really a thing yet. When it finally came back a few years ago, Zoe is in school and has 2 siblings.

Wren was born in 2002. TikTok wasn’t even a thing in 2002.

Who’s fault is that?

I remember when Hammie got Barbie doll and he treated it as a bulldozer.

Zoe’s first word was Da-da, much to Wanda’s dismay. It took a long time to get her to say Ma-ma—and at first she would only say it if her finger was up her nose!

Zoe’s was dada hammie’s was correct and wren never said tik tok????

There was a family whose little boy never spoke. The child’s doctor assured the parents that some children spoke at a later age than others, not to worry.

But he still never spoke,

One morning at breakfast when he was about two, he threw down his spoon and said “This oatmeal is lousy!”

“Son!” exclaimed the boy’s mother. “You’ve never spoken before! Why now?”

“Well,” said the tot, “up to now everything’s been fine.”
