I’ve always liked them, personally.

They taste awesome in salad…the leaves…roots are for making tea, flowers …wine …yea, useless he adds sarcastically

Also, I remember when I was a kid reading a book by Bradbury, called Dandy Lion Wine. Wasn’t as good as Catcher In the Rye, but I like reading any teenager’s books about alcoholic beverages!

The greens are very healthy (more than many gardened plants) and have good flavor. Tea is also a good use of the leaves.

You’re reading the wrong stuff, it’s not an invasive weed, it’s a native species, most of the garden is the invasive plants.

Native to Eurasia, dandelions are both invasive and exotic.

Dandelions are good for bees, and also rabbits eat them. If Charlie wants pollinators in his garden leave the dandelions be.

Pedantic Pete here, it´s actually dent de lion (tooth of the lion) because of the shape of the leaves.

And yes, I’m a fan. They’re a useful, important plant.

I like dandelions. I know they’re weeds but I like the flowers.

They’re not bad for salads and greens. I have a neighbor that has her whole yard covered in dandelions. With the yellow flowers against a green background, their yard is beautiful.

Actually the name is a corruption of the French dent de lion meaning “lion’s tooth”

Jonas shouldn’t represent the dandelions, they’re just going to blow with the wind.

And dandelions are so good for pollinators.

Actually dandelions are a great medicinal herb. All parts of it can be used. I heard that it was brought to America by English colonists.

The Spanish conquistadors brought spiky stabby super-mean weeds to California. One variety has seeds that can puncture car tires. They thrive where the grass died in the droughts and they are designed to snag/stab a ride on anything passing by. And then there’s the lovely, soft-leaved, soft-flowered dandelion, cheerful little bits of sun and moon in its stages. I have seriously considered sowing my yard in dandelion seeds in hopes they’ll crowd out the weeds.

Dandelions are early bloomers, providing pollen for bees at a time when there are few other pollen providers. Chemical herbicides are especially harmful to bees when nature is providing few alternatives. And remember that bees were imported to the Western Hemisphere at about the same time as Dandelions. Without bees, agriculture would be markedly different (weaker).

If dandelions were hard to grow, we would salute the yards which were blessed with their beauty.

our “lawn” is a carpet of blooming dandelions right now. don’t know about you, but i think flowers are more interesting than grass… ☺

A college friend of my sister’s, who had grown up in the St. Louis ghetto, said to her one morning, “Wasn’t it nice of the University to plant those little yellow flowers in the grass?”

Dandelions are lovely. A sign on spring.

Dandelions are nice to look at, and it seems they’re useful in nature, too. I’ll take ’em.

You get a plant that not only helps the pollinators out early in the season, but also a plant with many medicinal uses for humans ! Great for liver health.
