Also, I remember when I was a kid reading a book by Bradbury, called Dandy Lion Wine. Wasnât as good as Catcher In the Rye, but I like reading any teenagerâs books about alcoholic beverages!
Antelopes, zebras, or gazelles do not love lions. As for the âkingâ part, tigers, hippos, elephants, and PAINTED WOLVES dispute that. Hint: the silly cats are, at best, 30% efficient as hunters. That is, they succeed three times out of 10 attempts. Painted wolves, now, a bad pack is 70% efficient; a good pack might be up to 90%. And painted wolves hunt the same prey in the same place as the big kitties.
Theyâre not bad for salads and greens. I have a neighbor that has her whole yard covered in dandelions. With the yellow flowers against a green background, their yard is beautiful.
The Spanish conquistadors brought spiky stabby super-mean weeds to California. One variety has seeds that can puncture car tires. They thrive where the grass died in the droughts and they are designed to snag/stab a ride on anything passing by. And then thereâs the lovely, soft-leaved, soft-flowered dandelion, cheerful little bits of sun and moon in its stages. I have seriously considered sowing my yard in dandelion seeds in hopes theyâll crowd out the weeds.
Dandelions are early bloomers, providing pollen for bees at a time when there are few other pollen providers. Chemical herbicides are especially harmful to bees when nature is providing few alternatives. And remember that bees were imported to the Western Hemisphere at about the same time as Dandelions. Without bees, agriculture would be markedly different (weaker).
A college friend of my sisterâs, who had grown up in the St. Louis ghetto, said to her one morning, âWasnât it nice of the University to plant those little yellow flowers in the grass?â
You get a plant that not only helps the pollinators out early in the season, but also a plant with many medicinal uses for humans ! Great for liver health.

The greens are very healthy (more than many gardened plants) and have good flavor. Tea is also a good use of the leaves.

Youâre reading the wrong stuff, itâs not an invasive weed, itâs a native species, most of the garden is the invasive plants.

Native to Eurasia, dandelions are both invasive and exotic.

Dandelions are good for bees, and also rabbits eat them. If Charlie wants pollinators in his garden leave the dandelions be.

Pedantic Pete here, itÂŽs actually dent de lion (tooth of the lion) because of the shape of the leaves.

âA weed is a plant growing where we donât want it toâ Often becomes invasive because of our mismanagement, allowing it to take over.

Actually the name is a corruption of the French dent de lion meaning âlionâs toothâ

Jonas shouldnât represent the dandelions, theyâre just going to blow with the wind.

And dandelions are so good for pollinators.

Actually dandelions are a great medicinal herb. All parts of it can be used. I heard that it was brought to America by English colonists.

If dandelions were hard to grow, we would salute the yards which were blessed with their beauty.
