Oh dear. I sense a bit of snooty disapproval toward this supposed breach of high-society table manners: How gauche! Would Emily Post approve?
This is, in fact, a purely practical way to sip the very last of the sugary goodness dissolved in the milk. And … how else is one to view the approval of the smiley face in the bottom of the bowl?
Please note that that the Plugger has his pinky finger extended daintily. And that, if no other, is his saving grace in this instance. :) :)
If you would drink the remaining milk from your cereal bowl, would you still drink it if it was poured from the bowl and into a regular drinking glass?
Allan Sherman had a bit about “Clean Plate Club” and starving children in Africa. He cleaned his plate 5-6 times a day, but the kids were still starving and he got fat.
Unfortunately you can only do this at home, and with soup as well. Seems to me there is a European country where drinking the last of your soup from the bowl is acceptable, but I don’t remember which one.
The hard part is getting the cereal and milk to even out. I always have a little milk left, so I pour in a little more cerial. Then there’s not enough milk left, so I pour in more. Repeat until box or milk jug is empty.
avoid that awkward problem altogether. Use glasses instead of bowls for cereal and drink away when done…..and receive a bonus ….glasses hold less cereal so you can keep re-filling to have crisper cereal from the start
Being too literal even as a child – I would not add milk to my “dry cereal” or it would not be dry. Also no one ever even suggested adding sugar to it – and always plain Cheerios.

Pluggers were taught by their mothers not to waste food.

Pluggers know from experience that the best milk with the most sugar and the most chocolate is at the bottom of the bowl!
