This is us. My Bride is packed and ready to leave at least two days before D-Day. I might start the day before but it’s usually the morning of. Over the years I have learned two things. No one comes home and wishes they had packed more clothes. Second, wherever you go nobody there is traveling to your home city to buy their necessities.

My mom used to pack days ahead, and usually twice as much as necessary. My dad, about ten or fifteen minutes tops, and only what was really needed.

We spend a few days with our daughter every couple months or so. My wife packs the day before; I pack the morning of. It takes 15-20 minutes, depending on how long we are going to stay.

Is this going to be the old joke about Arlo (man) packing everything in a carry-on and Janis (woman) needing a steamer trunk (or two)?

I am usually packed the day before a trip, especially since I like to leave before 5 am. My wife? She will get up at 4 with me and fumble around and pack at 4:30am. Miraculously, we can get on the road by 5-5:15.

All men pack is two extra pairs of jeans, two shirts, 2 pairs socks and 5 pairs of underwear. Anything else is extra….. and that is for two week’s needs.

I’m a little like you. I have learned to pack very light, and in plenty of time before the car pulls out. My wife, on the other hand, will start packing a few minutes before we are to leave. I must admit, I don’t understand your last point.

We travel light, a roller bag and a shoulder bag each. Including for a 3-week trip to SE Asia…

No time for packing. Plenty of time for panicking.

I thought it was “Luddie”. I suppose people can mess with their pets’ names like that sometimes…

I pack the RV in two days (except clothes). My clothes take an hour at the most and usually in place 2 days before we leave. My wife takes three days for her clothes and usually finishes as we are walking out the door.????

I pack a full size spare tire for the SUV, the donut is just for laughs. And I also bring a battery powered impact gun, a screw jack, and a socket to fit the screw jack and the lug nuts.

recently seen on the intraweb: There are kinds of people. The ones that pack six days before a trip, and the ones that wake up day-of and realize the need to do a load of laundry. …and they marry each other.

Pack the suit case completely full. Remove half the clothes. Replace the clothes with money. you will need fewer clothes and more money.

I always pack the evening before leaving. If I start to early, I over think and over pack. Better to miss something and buy it on the road.

Wherever I travel I have a small backpack as hand luggage with the bare necessities for 3 days and meds for the whole trip. So I can give up on any further luggage – if I have any anyways – if it gets lost or accidentally delivered to Georgia (the one south of Russia).

There are shops even in the most rural places where I can buy missing items to get me along. I don’t need a suit or sports equipment or bulky electronics. In case of need I rent it there.
