What is weirder is when peoplesā children that you knew as toddlers are now graduating college or getting married. Of course, THEY are allowed to get older.
I loved it when my 87-year-old mother would talk about āold peopleā doing this or that. Now that Iām older, I find myself doing the same thing. Mentally, Iām still in my 30ās, but physically, thatās another story.
In Mexico, after you get into your sixties, you are said to be āde la tercera edadā, or in the third stage of your life. There is no fourth stage ā I donāt kow if this is a good or bad thing. Even though Iām well into āla tercera edadā, sometimes I am addressed as āseƱoritaā instead of āseƱoraā, which is kind of nice.
just had to smile when our spritely neighbor whoās the same age as me told us that the toothless guy who whiles away his days burning green leaves in his backyard two doors down from our veggie patch, filling the neighborhood with thick smoke, the white-haired guy who looks continually perplexed, was her classmate, same grade. he mustāve seen some rough times, ācause he looks to be about 110ā¦

My Mom tried to talk my grandmother into attending the seniorās group at church. She said: āI donāt want to be around those old people!ā
She was in her 90ās.

Anyone your age or younger is young, regardless of your age. Anyone older is old.
