You heard the man, gang: let’s all meet back here in June of 2084 so we can talk about what a terrific writer Batiuk was and how his visionary veneration of Silver Age comic books and the fanboys who love them was ahead of its time.

Why wait? We already recognize it for what it is.

The 60th anniversary of FUNKY WINKERBEAN is coming soon! The 50th came, and no other strip made mention of it! It was cancelled after that, and other strips checked their nail polish! But get those pre-orders in for 2032! Before—THE BURNINGS

The Late Phil Holt, three days ago: “These Omnibuses are lousy!”

The Late Phil Holt, today: “These Omnibuses are excellent!”

By the way, if the good work wasn’t recognized in its time, the omnibus wouldn’t exist today, would it.

Now will they all stop yakking about comics and get that poor grey-skinned kid to a hospital? He’s suffering from oxygen deprivation.

“The Starsuck Jones Omnibus just shows that if you do good work…”

“…it will get recognized right away. If, on the other hand, you do schlock like this, it will take sixty years before somebody crazy enough to collect and re-publish it comes along.”

Management apologizes that the second word Zeppelin wasn’t big enough to accommodate the original dialog.

Homunculus Jff is smiling (not just smirking, like Real Jff) because he is very close to getting into position to kill Philled Hole once and for all, at which point he will be released from his bondage to the Dark Lord and finally, after sixty years, be able to move on to the next level.

No matter how long Crankshaft lives the naysayers here (JJ Omuley and Where’s Crankshaft) will never acknowledge its humor

This makes so much sense. Nobody thought the strips were any good when they were published, so the owners said, “Hey, let’s bind all these books that nobody liked into a big omnibus, because who wouldn’t want to buy the complete collection of something they didn’t like?”
