I don’t remember any women coloring their hair to that extent, or the skin baring clothes of today other than the ladies of the evening. The women just didn’t do that – plus their husbands who cared for their wives and the respect they received from the children kept them from doing those things… at least in my neck of the prairie in the upper plains midwest, etc.
I used to know an older woman who tinted her white hair the palest hint of mint green, so subtle that you had to look twice to be sure you saw it. It brought out the deep green of her eyes beautifully!
This plugger remembers as a child, approximately 1963… sigh being at a drug store looking at comic books and an older lady with tinted pink hair that matched the tiny toy poodle she was carrying! Certainly not the bold color pink many use now! My mom explained pink and blue tints were used when a woman didn’t want to be grey-haired.

It looks like our plugger today went a little heavy on the blue rinse. The idea is to just cover up any yellowing of the grey hair.
