They’d watch TV and eat junk food; probably what those hypocrite parents were doing when they conked out!

Strangely, I’ve seldom had trouble waking up enough to go to bed. I do sometimes nap while the the TV runs if Spouse is about because she tends to turn it on. If I’m operating solo, then I just read until I notice my eyes self-closing… or about 8 hours before I have to be awake the next day… then I head for the pillow and blankets.

When I was in high school, my bedtime was 9 or maybe 10 PM. I’m not sure because I never actually went to bed then—both my parents would fall asleep watching TV, and I, a night owl then and now, would very quietly continue watching my favorite programs until 11PM. Of course, that meant that I had a hard time getting up the next morning and staying awake during school. Sigh … it’s like I was born with jet lag! I really like being retired and now I can indulge myself with life’s one true luxury—going to bed when I’m sleepy and getting up when I’m not sleepy anymore.

I woke up last night in the small hours. (nocturnal trip to the loo. Again). I just woke half an’ hour ago in my armchair in much the same position as Dad there. So I can relate.

At one point I made a deal with my daughters. They had to be IN BED at a certain time; what they did while there was another matter. As long as they were healthy, happy, bringing in their average grades, and didn’t give attitude, it was all good. My older daughter would read, journal, whatever, & usually still be up at 11 (she’s still capable of running on very little sleep); her sister would be out almost as soon as her head hit the pillow.

If I had to chase around after someone like Calvin all day, I’d be crashed out on the couch too!

Maybe that’s why my parents slept so much…

Watching the new confused tweenie coming-of-age super hero action series with more nationalities, ethnicities than the United Nations and colors of the rainbow than exist in nature on Netflix. Of course, the arch villain is a male WASP/C. Booooo Hisssss.

Sometimes while watching a video on YouTube at night, it slowly fades out as I drift off. Catch myself snoring.

Ha! I wouldn’t be surprised if the parents slept on the couch like that all night! And imagine how Calvin would react the next morning when he sees his parents wearing the same clothes as yesterday. A little amusement to lighten the drudgery of his morning routine?

So, basically, sleeping on the couch instead of in bed.
