Now they are most anyone’s living room.

Not everyone is addicted to Netflix

Movies went to streaming. Records went to streaming. Hi fi amplifiers and speakers went to ear buds, or even better noise-canceling headphones. Movie projectors went to big screen TVs. Giant shelves full of discs went to iPad files. 1/10 the cost and 10 times the convenience.

Lost the appeal, after having to move boxes of LPs, VCR’s, CD’s

I’m sittin’ in mine right now. and there’s even more downstairs.

I got rid of the DVD’s and CD’s as well as the machines that used them years ago. Streaming has made life so much simpler. If the internet goes down we have a great local radio station and if that is down I have a real book library. Have not missed my media collection at all. More room in the media room!

Since everything is going retro can media rooms be far behind?

I’m old. I remember when having a color TV was a “big deal”. Of course, there were only 3 channels, which you changed by GETTING UP and walking to the TV!

I still have DVDs and CDs in cases in my offsite locker. I burned all of them to MP4s and MP3s. My Jeep even has a Hard Drive that I can put my music on.

Media rooms have gone to the same place as Dining Rooms[our current house was built in 2014, doesn’t have a Dining Room. Does have a breakfast nook though]along with a huge Living room

I have a movie room with a big, big screen. It never gets used

Never had a media room. We did convert a spare bedroom into a crafting room for my wife though, so it must depend on the type of media.

We call it OBE (Overcome By Events).

Media rooms are a thing of the past with all the huge big screen tvs at such low prices we just don’t need a media room anymore. I have a 75 inch in the living room and a 58 in the bedroom

The media room is now the seed sorting and storage room.

Traded them in for the small phone screen and portability.

The “Media Room” is now called a: Kindle!

People discovered that the only thing to do in a media room was to watch the same boring dreck that was available on television and streaming…

Big screen+surround atmos sound+picture and sound quality=so much better than streaming. I’ll never go to a real theater again. Can pause for refreshments and restroom. But I really like movies, so it works for me.

I “borrowed” from my mom’s vinyl collection (CCR, Janis Joplin, etc), and bought stuff on my own in the late 70s and throughout the 80s. Glad I held onto everything. Still have turntable. I know I can stream, but these records have memories attached. And streaming early Johnny Cash isn’t the same as owning one of his albums on orinal Sun Records label.

I have a SD card player on my stereo, about 2K songs. I have the Rolling Stones Top 500 download from a few years back. The Top 500 Classical is a work in progress cataloguing. Samsung phone has 128Gb storage

Flat screen is wall mounted, no visible wiring, even wired unused connections to a keystone block behind electric fireplace

No TV in our living room. A 65 year old Panasonic tuner/amp and two custom speakers that are 33 years old. a three seater. a two seater and two single recliner chairs. We talk when we are together with friends. The TV is downstairs.

I have a 65" 4k TV in my bedroom/office that doubles as a monitor when I work.

Someday my grandchildren will tell their grandchildren, “When I was your age the TV screen didn’t even cover one whole wall! The only way to change channels and adjust the volume was by pushing buttons on this thing we called a ‘remote’ and we kept losing it!”

Ever gone anyplace especially at home without you being cell phone media connected?

Technology outpaced them. You can’t, for the most part, play vinyl or VCR cassettes anymore. I’m surprised that DVDs are still around and haven’t been displaced by blue tooth. People have these old records and movies that they can’t play anymore because technology has changed.

The media room is where you listen to your vinyl and your CD’s, especislly if you’re into classical, where sound quality counts. Music you can listen to on your phone can be very good music, but it’s not about high quality sound. Popular music is built to survive bad playback.

When people consider it easier to have several streaming accounts then own physical media that takes up space.

They shrunk into cell phones.

I got rid of my media room to make a woo grotto.

I have over 150 VHS tapes I recorded back in the 80s and 90s. Old TV shows, events and wrestling. What I’d give to be able to watch them now!!

In 2020, we were both retired, we decided in January to move to another state. Our house sold in April, we drove to the new state, closed on our new home on May 1, 2020. Less than 5 months. I’ve got so that I only read A & J once or twice a week, because NOTHING HAPPENS. MOVE! or DON’T MOVE! DO SOMETHING!

We call ours the cave 75 inch tv, surround sound stereo with turntable, pool table and stocked bar.

Home theaters are still very popular. It’s why so many films flop on the big screen — people want to watch them, but in the convenience of their own home.

it’s called a smart TV nowadays. Unlimited movies and music on demand

We don’t have a media room, but we do have a TV room.
