I watched a YouTube video of cochlear implant surgery b4 my operation. Didn’t phase me. Now I can hear or be completely deaf when I want.

There used to be an old saw, back in the Nineteenth Century or so, among doctors about operations: “See one. Do one. Teach one.”

That was back before antibiotics (heck! even before the germ theory became accepted, thank you, Dr. Pasteur) when going from amputating a limb off one injured soldier on the battlefield to the next in the same bloodied gown was considered not only safe but efficient.

That reminded me of being wheeled down the hall to the operating room for my quadruple bypass, more than 20 years ago. The drugs they gave me before were very calming.

What a couple of cut-ups. But, hey, it’s not brain surgery… oh wait, yes it is.

When I had a surgery (elective/non-life-threatening) I was an absolute puddle. Probably the biggest nerve-bag they’d ever had. But I survived it…

It’s more disconcerting when they are watching the actual YouTube video as they perform the operation. “Shoot, now we have to wait for these ads.”
