Semi pro league. that pretty much sums it up. They finally legalized what was going on under the table for years.

The coaches, ADs and the colleges they worked for were reaping millions upon millions every year. It was about time the kids got a piece of the action.

Mr. Johnson is an alumni of Auburn University. Not surprisingly so is Arlo’s favorite musician, Jimmy Buffet. Getting back to football, watching a game Arlo and Janis typically wear Auburn’s colors, Burnt Orange and Navy Blue, but not today. JJ might be trying to keep his Tigers out of his complaint. A loss yesterday leaves them 2 and 3. Not having a good year.

I watch these young players running, getting hit, slammed to the ground, and what they must feel like the morning after. When they get to be my age, they can wake up feeling that way every morning without having to put forth the effort!

I once knew a guy who was so into the different levels of football that when he moved across the country to a new city, he did whatever “research” was involved to pick out a local high school team to root for.

We haven’t watched any commercials for over 30 years now. Mute the TV, read a book, watch TV and repeat. Or watch streaming or record and then FF through the ads.

watch the 10 minute recap on you tube, no commercials, timeouts, huddles or inane commentary. Only way to watch sports these days.

First they ruined the bowls, then they ruined the conferences.

Division I college football has been semi pro for decades, only difference until now was the players did not get paid. Hopefully we will finally see the end of “amateurism” as defined by the NCAA because they have been putting the screws to the “student-athlete” for decades

Just think, in a football game that takes 2 hours to broadcast, there is probable TWO MINUTES of actual football action. Typical.

College football players were always “semi-pro”. Now, due to NIL, pay for play is no longer hidden in the shadows. Personally, I could not care less….GO CANES!!!

The Big Ten has become The Professional College Football League. I have walked away from Ohio State football, and I doubt that I will watch The Game this year.

Woody was right. He said that televised games would ruin college football.

Again, Jimmy nails it. I, too, have noticed lately that even with multiple channels of college ball games playing at the same time, odds are that I will land on a commercial break regardless of where I flip.

She went to that college too, right? I got so frustrated with the announcers of a game I was watching. They kept talking about if there was enough evidence of turning over a penalty call. They talked so loud that it was hard to hear what the final decision was by the referee. I could only tell by what happened on the next play. From now on I’ll mute it while the announcers debate it over and over and over again!

College football has been semi-pros masquerading as “students” since before I was born, and I’m 60.

I did not go to any sports games in high school. In college I went to 5 football games – and then only because my “house plan”* was selling cocoa at the games – we did so only at these 5 games and never before or since and had a loss on each game. Husband did not go to any at all in high school or college.

*House plan – a sorority-like organization which accepts any female student who wants to join – no “rushing” and has British town names (instead of Greek letters) as a name. We did not have any “house” or any other building.
