Really feels dated, and marginal. How many young people even know Bullwinkle and Rocky? And I have never watched Breaking Bad, which I assume is part of this joke.
When I was a teenager SO many moons ago, I had a subscription to Mad Magazine. My mother was against it but my father over ruled her on that one. I remember rushing home the days it was supposed to be there so I could fold in the back cover.I was 13 or 14 at the time and bought my first used book, Catcher in the Rye. I didn’t understand a lot of it and didn’t even know how to pronounce Phoebe. But, I loved it and still have it 60 yrs later. Books have come and gone but this one stays.
A punny tribute to the late, great Jay Ward, who was the master of cartoon puns. As a wee lad, I would watch the Rocky & Bullwinkle show, laughing until I cried at the punniness of the various episodes. My favorite Ward ‘toon was Peabody’s Improbable History, wherein the characters were always involved in some improbable shaggy dog story which would invariably end up in a mic drop final pun. My parents would come into the living room to see what I was laughing so hysterically about, shake their heads and one of them would comment to the other “There’s something strange about that boy.” It only made it worse when I would try to explain the plot line and the joke to them. Lots of eye-rolling and “Well, he’s your son, dear” comments. Fun times!

Later, folks are surprised to see Rocky acting more squirrelly than usual!

He’s still a bad guy. Couldn’t kill Moose and Squirrel while the series ran, so now he’s found another way to destroy them.

From a Rocky & Bullwinkle episode:
ANNOUNCER: “…[several persons were] listening in on the party line, including Boris Badenough”
BORIS: “And I always listen to party line.”
ANNOUNCER: “How come?”
BORIS: “The Party Line is my country’s answer to the thinking man’s filter.”

The Rocky and Bullwinkle shows were chock full of social and political commentary delivered in a humorous vein.

Where’s the Kirwood Derby when we need it? Back on the Moon? Is that why so many countries are trying to get there?
