This reminds me of something I read, quoting a US official, in the days when the US was in Afghanistan, trying to build a government: “You can’t buy an Afghan. You can only rent him for a limited time.”
this really shows the problem with Afghanistan, there is no loyalty to a nation or long term vision, they never really developed out of the tribal phase, just got better toys.
When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains, and the women come out to cut up what remains, jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains and go to your gawd like a soldier.
Our biggest problem is flying in to “solve” a country’s problem and assuming there is a stable political structure with clearly defined loyalties to the country.
The biggest problem OUR allies are going to have is assuming we are a country with a stable political structure and clearly defined loyalties to the country.

But it all depend on whose side the drone is. And aren’t these terrorist groups (in)famous for their “suicide” fighters?

“Taliban”
There’s a word you don’t see much of any more. And that’s good.

Tells you a lot about Akbar’s character. According to Simon Cameron, “An honest politician is one who, when he is bought, will stay bought.”

It’s so refreshing to know that any random Afghanis you might encounter out on the open road are fluent English speakers.

Of course the Afghans had a huge amount of help from the US against the Russians, with advanced weapons from us. And we know what happened later…..
