Back to the current hair color but simple stumbles can be so disconcerting as we try to convince ourselves that we really aren’t that old. Nice job Arlo. Perfect thing to do at that moment.
Never sure what age cartoon characters are supposed to be but in real life, I’d be concerned about someone about their age taking a fall like that over a thing like a throw rug. Is Jimmy going for realism in his characters?
Funny how getting older makes simple things pretty darn scary… these days I (generally) won’t go up or down the stairs without my hand on the rail. Just how it is now….
Caring is important if if you are to angry at yourself to enjoy it. Falling at an older age can be bad, so let him hug, thank him and you will both be happy.
I did this two weeks ago. Except my face hit the drawer pull on a cabinet. I had a black eye for two weeks, everyone kept looking at my husband. He was whole country away, so he had an alibi!
Trip and falls are a leading cause of injuries in the work place, and I’m guessing the same is true at home…probably followed by a slip down a staircase. I did the staircase thing when I was in my early 30’s…and have always taken much more care when walking down stairs since. All I got was a really, really sore tail bone, but I learned it’s an event I don’t wish to re-experience. Bones tend to be a bit more susceptible to being broken the when you’re approaching or are in your “golden years”. I’d like to keep mine all in one piece, thank you very much!
In the magical world of A&J before looking at the dialog brought me this story:
First panel: Janis is obviously chasing what must be a whimsical, magical, flying cup that is getting away with her first cup of coffee.
The second panel shows she has successfully captured and kept the cup from escaping, but broke the handle in doing so. Everyone knows a magic cup cannot fly with a broken handle.
Third panel: Arlo is beseeching her as to the reason why she took such measures to capture that cup and ultimately breaking the handle on such a special cup. . .
Fourth panel: Janis is adamantly explaining to Arlo that nothing nor nobody messes with her first cup off coffee in the morning lest they risk life or limb in doing so because she’ll be terribly crabby without having that cup of coffee.
Last Panel: Arlo is reassuring her that he still loves her regardless of whether or not she’s crabby and had her first up of coffee or not, much to Janis’ chagrin.
I then read the dialog…..and learned once again, I’m not even close. Rats.
It sounds like a joke but it is very real: You can tell if you are young or old by falling down. If you fall and people laugh, it means you are young. If you fall and people run over to help you, it means you are old.
As long as the mug itself is in one piece, you don’t need the handle. My favorite mug, purchased in 1979 lost its handle last winter. It works fine, and it is still my favorite.
To be careful when coming down the stairs with laundry – I let the laundry bag roll down the steps on its own ahead of me. When taking the clean laundry back up I hold the laundry basket on my right hip as the hand rails for both flights of stairs are on the left side and I hold onto them. Though many times he will gallantly take the basket and carry it up for me.

She forgot, “…and now the rug is wrinkled!”.I don’t mind falling. It’s the abrupt stop at the bottom that is so uncomfortable.

Better a broken mug than a broken Janis.

My sister fell yesterday, when I wasn’t with her. My only comment when they told me was, “Was she hurt?” She wasn’t injured…just embarrassed.
colddonkey about 1 month ago
Oh heck I don’t need a rug to scatter myself all over the floor.

When the doc asks if you’ve had any unexplained falls, you can answer “no, I can explain them all”

The older we get, the more we scoot our feet, as opposed to picking them up. Thus we create our own tripping hazards.
