‘If Amazon’s AI wrote and drew comics’ it would spew out this trash. (Cue “THEN WHY DO U READ TIHS LOL!” comments which might as well be from a janky AI)
I think I’ve hit upon what sucks about this entire series: it’s not a Crankshaft story. It’s not a Funky Winkerbean story. It’s not even a proper Batiuk story. This is a generic premise acted out by generic characters. The writer has done not one thing to create interaction between his premise and the comic strip worlds he has built. The “Hells Angels School Bus Driver” could have taken place anywhere. Anonymous people experiencing everyday Amazon delivery glitches with their kids, also could be in any comic.
And what makes this particularly weird is that Batiuk has created some characters that could be lots of fun if forced to interact with an Amazon student-delivery service. Each driver could have a joke about how he might be affected, none of which would show any concern for the kids (for instance, Ed could worry that Amazon’s AI-assisted routing could allow one of their drivers to break his record for cars stacked up behind the bus). There could be a week of trials, where the drivers are off (with pay) and Amazon delivers the kids, during which the drivers could go from whining over coffee at Dale Evans to some particularly unsuitable attempt to sabotage the trial (remember, Ed is involved, so the destruction of mailboxes should be a part). There could be a resolution in which it’s agreed that Amazon did a better job but they’re keeping the drivers around because the school board chair’s bet heavily on the school bus drivers’ bowling team. The best few of the “If Amazon Drove School Buses” strips could even be put into the story as seasoning.

A couple of hours in detention must feel like Nirvana when compared to a week of this.

This is a great idea. I wonder if they will next send out a map saying how many stops away the bus is.

What has detention got to do with Amazon? I think this Amazon-school bus storyline has run out of gas. Let’s move on, shall we?

Dan Davis just loves copy-and-paste, doesn’t he?

I assume this vitriol is all because Amazon wouldn’t give Tom a break on the printing costs for his latest vanity press book.

Ah but that would require writing…
