I pay my bills every Saturday including my credit card.
First of all, if there is a questionable charge, I can challenge it immediately. I am also more likely to remember what the $24.52 charge was if I had just made it that week.
This is like pulling the band aid off slowly instead of just ripping it off.
Also, if I know I will have a big expense coming up, I start putting money aside for it. I use a spreadsheet to balance the checkbook. I have an account code for everything. S01 is Set Aside. Any money I put in there is like an unprocessed check. When I finally release the money to pay the bill, I zero the amount out.
Copy that. And you can do it easily in the comfort of your own home. Black Friday and Deja Vous Cyber Monday, play peek a boo with your checking account.

I prevent spending too much by checking my accounts on a regular basis.

Nope. I still use this old fashioned thing called CASH. If you got it you can spend it, if you don’t got it then you can’t spend it.

Close. Have had to pay out some large veterinary sums while the bank disagreed with my balance.

I don’t worry about my bank account, but I do have buyer’s remorse if I spent too much on something.

As long as the charge card hasn’t melted enough to render the security code illegible, it’s all good.
