My favorite mug cracked and I’ve spent way too many hours searching for another one. It must have been from a very limited set of one. The size of the mug and mass or whatever a mug has will effect the cooling of the coffee. If you have a mug that gets coffee from the pot to your spot and it arrives at a ready to drink or consistent temp every morning you keep it. Now I just look for, the one my daughter bought me or a clean one or a bright color one.

I used my Navy cup until my Dad died. Now I use his old cup (that I gave him one Christmas). I’ve never had a bad cup of coffee in it. Me? I’m 78.

I have MY favorite coffee mug!

I collect coffee cups and mugs. I have all kinds, all sizes, holiday ones, and special theme, everything. I think Aunty is right, it does seem that the coffee tastes better in some cups than others. I don’t know why, it just does.

I drink my coffee in a mug. If you drink your coffee in a paper cup with a lid… you’re missing about 50% of the flavor. Like wine… coffee is meant to be smelled as you drink it.

My coffee cup is like the traditional English tea pot- you don’t scrub it! It is seasoned with a coffee patina.

It’s the same thing with M&M’s. They taste different, depending on the color!

When Your Coffee Needs That Extra Kick

I’m a regular at a coffee place and my favorite barista is working today. She is known for having a monotone and somewhat downbeat sense of humor, but hides it well from customers.

I’ve put in my order and am waiting for my drink when I see my favorite barista call out:

Barista: “Iced caramel macchiato for Rachel?”

Customer: “That’s me!”

She runs over and takes a sip.

Customer: “Mmm! I can really tell you made this with love! Thanks!”

She skips out all lollipops and rainbows, leaving the barista and me catching each other’s eye.

Barista: “Jokes on her, that was made with pure hate and rage.”

Me: “I always knew the coffees here tasted better!”

I have dozens of coffee cups. I use only about a half dozen.

The rest are in my collection and are worth more than a dollar figure. They represent every unit with which I have served. Some have other meanings: for example, I have a coffee cup commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Air Force. It’s now 77 years old.

I also have a couple from former employers and one that I got at my 50th High School reunion that features a Route 66 highway shield – it was also featured on the cover of our yearbook. I was in the class of ’66.

I don’t make my coffee in a mug. I make it in a coffee pot. Some coffee makers make better tasting coffee. I haven’t noticed that the mug I drink from makes any difference in the flavor.

What really used to tic me off was when the drip coffee maker was brewing and coffee was pouring into the carafe, people would put their cups under the stream and fill their cups before the pot was filled. What they didn’t realize was the steam at the start of the brew was much stronger than the steam towards the end, so by taking a cup from the beginning would cause the rest of the pot to be just weak colored water.

REAL coffee connoisseurs uses nugs, because cups are for tea.

Yes, various molds do taste differently from one another so that probably explains it since if you are making coffee in a mug it is doubtful you wash it out. Personally I think making coffee in a mug is the height of lazy and the depth of no taste. Only cheap instant coffee is made in a mug. All other coffee’s are made in some sort of pot or device.

They have different shaped glasses for wine tasting. It affects how the wine breathes, how you smell it, how it flows across your tongue, etc.So I can believe the mug can affect the taste of the coffee.

I threw away my coffee mug with a clown face on it. The coffee always tasted funny.

I prefer ceramics for my coffee, I have two travel mugs that are double walled with steel inside and plastic outside and they leave an aftertaste, I liken it to drinking beer out of a can vs out of a bottle, I can taste the aluminum from the can. I ordered a ceramic travel mug with a lid with the Rosetta Stone design, it will come tomorrow:)

If you are making it in a mug it sounds like you’re making instant coffee. And you consider yourself a coffee connoisseur.

Our Keurig machine doesn’t make great coffee, no matter the K-cup nor the mug, but it sure is convenient.

The mechanics in one of the shops that I ran, had one of those large coffee makers. They made one pot per day and left it on all day long. By the end of the day it was the right consistency to fill potholes. Some mechanics swore by “End Of The Day” Coffee.
