I got a punching bag for Christmas one year. It was a bag on top of a piece of metal that was springy. One of my older sisters friends broke it with one punch.
I also had one when I was a small boy and loved it. When my son was the right age, I bought one for him, and he loved it, too. However, he never punched or hurt any living thing. Today, he has three little girls, and he is a gentle, loving dad.
I also had a Punching Clown. And, over the years, a Red Felt Cowboy Hat, a āVibratingā Football Game, a View-Master, Tinker Toys, an Erector Set, Lincoln Logs, Mr. Potato-Head, Silly Putty, a Super-Ball, various board games like Clue, Chutes and Ladders, Stratego, Backgammon, Candy Land, Risk!, Sorry!, and Yahtzee. One year I got a Hockey Game with those āmenā that could be moved forward and backward and twisted with handles, that could be played with a Puck or a Marble (the Marble was way more fun). That first night, I didnāt get to play a single game on it because my Dad and a friend of his, whose family was spending Xmas with us, monopolized it until long after Iād gone to bedā¦ āŗ
And when I bring up the idea that violence is baked into American culture from the cradle to the grave, people always look at me as if I had three headsāand they want to punch one of them.
I had one of those. It lasted a few weeks. It had sand in the bottom to make the base heavy. I donāt recall asking for it, but mu folks thought I should have one.
I hope the older ones on here donāt take this as an insult. I am 52 years old and donāt ever recall seeing these things, when did they come out and were popular. It seems just about all the comments today the person had one but like I said I never heard or seen them in my childhood.

Memories of our youth arenāt always pleasant. Snakes in a pile of old railroad ties is one of mine. Janis, as usual, is there with solid advice.

Albert Bandura comes up in the comics more often than I might have expected back in college days.

Arloās memories are from back when Hollywood hadnāt ruined the reputation of clowns everywhere. Clowns were just a lot of fun when I was a kid.

Yeah, let go of it, Arlo. And quit with the attempted virtue signaling!

What suddenly hit Arlo about a punching toy?
Enoi 3 months ago
Arlo grew into a man who doesnāt enjoy punching things. He should be proud of his evolution.

I had one of those in college. Instead of punching it, I would take it outside and kick it around campus.

I always swore I could get it to stay down. Talk about an exercise in futility.

Is that on your christmas list Arlo? Had one as a kid and I loved it so much I punched it to death.

Mine didnāt last long. Maybe Santa should have given it to me when I was younger and didnāt punch so hard.
