According to Merriam-Webster “an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure” is the third definition of the third example of Epiphany. Pretty sure that is what Janis was referring to.
The “official” end of the Christmas season for Latin rite Catholics is 1/14, I think; the octave of the Epiphany. The Julian calendar based Orthodox Catholics lasts a couple of weeks longer, according to the Gregorian calendar.
No. Quoting Ebenezer Scrooge from the Christmas Carol, in part, after his Epiphany with the third Spirit, “I will keep the Spirit of Christmas alive in my heart everyday”, So should we all……
My Christmas decorations are staying put. My grand daughter, daughter and son in law have been sick with flu since 3 days before Christmas. We are determined to have our family Christmas together. Flu has been the worst I’ve seen down here in many years.
I have a set of bear figurines that I change out monthly (except in January normally).
This Christmas we were running late. I took out the nativity stable he had made for me decades ago for these bears and put it on the end table I set it up on. Mostly these bears are displayed on two shelves in a corner display unit. We just about got all the decorations (indoor – outdoor went out earlier) out by Christmas Day when I was setting them up.
Or so I thought. Last week I realized as I walked past the nativity stable that I had not put out these bears. They went out on New Year’s Eve and Day. (And part of them were a problem to put out as the Angel band and carolers go on top of our old TV cabinet and he has taken over part of the top of it during the year to put his electronics for the TV we actually use – so I had to fit the angel bears in about 2/3 of the space I normally do.)
Husband thought it odd to bother – I pointed out that if I don’t put them out one year, I never will again – plus they stay out normally through January as I do not have January bears to put out – and they are replaced at the start of February with the February bears from this set.

Only if bodies are being buried. Otherwise it’s merely tabled until November.

Perhaps next years celebration will be less if they ever move. Some things will be left behind.

Today is the religious holiday call the Epiphany, so the cartoonist is making a pun.

Let’s hope so, Johnson. Time to move on. Valentines Day is coming up and you need to be ready!

I have one of those pull down ladders. The final “fold up”, acts with the swiftness of a guillotine if you don’t control it carefully with the rope….

Being possessed of a dark turn of mind, I see this strip as also a metaphor for life.

They’re sipping coffee, so it’s probably around time for their morning meal. Janis seems like the sort who loves Breafast Epiphanies!

We had one of those fold-down attic ladders in my parents first home, built in 1954.

Hey! We installed one of those in garage this summer. Talk about epiphany!
