Oh yes! The olā criticism made to sound like a compliment trick! Iāve known people like that. You just have to know how to play their game. She hasnāt seen this woman in years, and after this visit, I can bet years will go by before she sees her again. No loss.
Comment from she, who married a Lord, whose āscheduled houseā(one āpreserved for the nationā)could contain three of the one belonging to the āDearsā ! ! !
When I was about 19, I visited my sisterās first home and commented on what a wonderful, pretty, little house it was. My dad was there and explained why my sister was so miffed. Bad lesson learned early and I never made that particular mistake again.
We have a nice compact houseā¦plus the second floor and the bridge to the Great Room. Everything we need is on the first floor, except the laundry. Thatās in the bridge. Too much house, but the location is good and thereās room for a modest orchardā¦which needs pruning every winter.
A few years ago I reconnected with a friend from 1st grade. It was 50 years ā almost to the day ā since I had last seen her. We talked for hours & are still talking every chance we get.
Mrs. Dear should ask how much said ādear friendā pays in property taxes for her large spacious home. One can safely bet the larger home comes with some hefty taxes, alongside with the added expense of upkeep.

due to space limitations, I heard most folksā houses in GB ( and Europe for that matter) are on the small and compact side

As one gets older a smaller home is way easier to take care of than a large one . My vote is for the smaller home ;-)

THIS is why any evening by the fire, with a good book, and just Fred as company, is always a good option.

I have a compact home, and it came with a garage. I like small, less to clean.

We all had a āfriendā like that back in school. Passive-aggressive-competitive with a side of teary-eyed victimhood. YECH!

Well, maybe it is small and compact. Iāve never actually seen all of it. Besides, homes are always smaller in Cartoon Land.

I mean itās 2 adults and a dog. Just how many rooms do you need? Thatās rooms you have to dust frequently for no good reason.
