All of my pets have been from the shelter or a rescue. I had purebred cats for several years a long time ago and have never regretted getting out of that.
This is why when we adopted our last two dogs, we adopted a pair of bonded sisters. Everyone wanted just one of them, but we were happy to take them both as they are very dedicated to one another.
I volunteered at a local animal shelter for many years, and bonded pets always did better when they were all adopted together into the same home. Their adoptive new owners also found that the mix was more easily controlled and adapted to the family home more easily. It’s only common sense. Animals have feelings too!
This is one of my favorite comics, but it’s curious that when it started there were no, or almost none, animals in the strip. It took a couple of years before they started to appear in non-speaking roles, and a couple more before they became the main focus of the humor. I’m glad Adrian Raeside finally found the magic formula! ❤️
I’m feeling sad and empty now that my little cuddle-bug Finnegan is gone. I miss him more than I thought possible. I submitted an application last week to the Westport animal shelter for a bonded pair of Chihuahuas — Otis is a 6 year old smooth applehead, and Lexi is a long-haired 5 year old. They’re at the other end of Connecticut, but that wasn’t a deterrent. Unfortunately, in the meantime, they’re now in the process of adoption. I hope they’ll be really happy wherever they’re going. So now I will start the search again. On my inquiries, I don’t specify age, gender, or specific breed … just a small breed, although I would be happiest to adopt a low-shedder.

We rehomed a a pair of ten year-old’s mail dogs that human mom had died. We and they cannot be happier. Dog spelled backwards is God.

When I worked at our local Humane Society, we always adopted out bonded pairs together. Best for all concerned.
