She means Farley.

She is talking about Edgar’s canine dad, Dogsitter.

For some reason, people like to pretend that a dog’s owner is its parent. Therefore, Elly’s comment about Edgar’s dad is assumed to be about John and not Farley. If a wife were to say something like that about her husband right in front of her husband, that would be a very passive, aggressive way of indicating a very poor home life between the wife and the husband. Kit probably thinks John is scum.

Nevertheless, John does have a history of people thinking the worst about him. Back when John was getting his cousin Fiona Brass into an apartment, it was taken by people who misheard him to be an indication that he was cheating on Elly with a mistress for whom he was getting an apartment. It is a running joke in this comic strip that other women think really, bad things about John.

I thought everybody referred to themselves as their pet’s parents. When I call the vet about our cat, I identify myself as “Boris’ mom”, and when I started to pass out (my ears ring and my hands tingle) I told our dog, Blazer, to “go get Poppa”, which – bless him – he did.

Because she didn’t think about who his real dad, Farley, was.

I’ve been the adopted Dad to all my dogs.

That’s how they ended up with Edgar as I recall.

I’m pretty sure they already had Edgar neutered. I remember them explaining his trip to the vet to April. Can’t look it up right now though.

From Lynn’s Comments: Our dog, Willy, stayed at a great kennel. The owners often kept the easy-going animals in their house with them, so Willy’s stay was a lot of fun. They had kennels, of course, in their “dogominium,” and their feline guests stayed in the “kitty-condo.” It was quite the comfy place.

The flight back home was apparently uneventful
