Sorry that I ask, but what does āParents saved the troubleā mean? Is it, that the parents wonāt have trouble anymore, because the killed boy wonāt make any troubles?
Lewreader,
You sound sincere and humble.
Forgiving others becomes easier when you consider what God has forgiven you (and me) when he came to earth in the person of Jesus Christ, his only begotten son, who lived a sinless life and thereby qualified to die a vicarious death on the cross paying the penalty for our sins. When we repent of our sins and accept Jesus by faith as our personal savior, we are regenerated spiritually and the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us. In the power of the Holy Spirit we can forgive. God forgives us for eternity to reconcile us to him forever. He also forgives us for fellowship with him in this life.
I donāt know how much you already knew of all this, but I hope it helps. May the Lord bless you!
I havenāt read this arc before but itās pretty easy to see where itās going. Not a good destination for Calvin, Iām afraid. Hobbes, on the other hand, will get off pretty easy. Stuffed animals always do.
I think if I were Calvin, I wouldnāt play dead, Iād play stuffed.
PUDDLEGLUM It is hard enough to believe through Grace alone we receive forgiveness. But that line in His prayer, āas we forgive othersā seems to be the fine print in the contract. It is wonderful if I become willing to forgive, but what if I donāt. Ahhh, thereās the rub. Should have read the fine print.
Lewreader, God is all-forgivingā¦ but you are in one way true that grace of God alone is not enough to realise Himā¦ we also need grace of our mindsā¦
we should follow His commands, should lead moral and ethical lives and most importantly our hearts should long for Him aloneā¦
Then we can realise His grace, His mercy, He Himselfā¦
Calvin should realise how not to make his mother madā¦
ā¦who lived a sinless life and thereby qualified to die a vicarious death on the cross paying the penalty for our sins..
vicarious?
it all made no sense to me when the nuns were throwing erasers and slapping my knuckles with rulers for asking questions and makes even less sense now when it appears on a comics forum
Well Iāve been ācopyinā the mailā for a while and decided as a long time fan to jump in. First, for those of you who are truly worried, having read all the strips several times I am fairly certain this is not the end, and just like the old time movie serials, Calvin will squeak out of this to return next week in a whole new thread! I promise. And some of the comments today implying Calvin should get religion seem to remind me of the saying āthere are no atheists in fox holes.ā Itās what one does after the smoke clears that counts. Bill Watterson did bring religion and philosophy into his work on many occasions, but if Calvin stopped getting into trouble heād stop running out of story ideas, which he did eventually anyway.
No. A bear is simply superior to a tiger. In any fight, the bear would win. A swipe from a bear would rip a human to shreds. The same goes for tigers. Have you ever heard a bearās roar?
Billdi - His life for our lives, His death for our death, His Hell for our Heaven. Pretty simple. We did not, indeed cannot, die for ourselves to effect an adequate legal propitiation. We appropriate His actions on our behalf vicariously, and trust that they are completely adequate. Calvin is prescient in this cartoon. Can hardly wait to see what happens when his mother finds him in the treeā¦.
āI havenāt read this arc before but itās pretty easy to see where itās going. Not a good destination for Calvin, Iām afraid. Hobbes, on the other hand, will get off pretty easy. Stuffed animals always do.
I think if I were Calvin, I wouldnāt play dead, Iād play stuffed.ā
Some of you are right, but to a point, itās baby bears that climb trees not the grown bears. Bears use their claws to climb, the height of the bear will pull out the claws. How would you like your nail pull out .Would not feel good! The same with the bear.Besides grown bears donāt have to climb a tree. Do you really want to mess with one? I know I donāt !
LadybugMacon: Actually, grown black bears climb trees very well - itās the large brown bears (the Grizzly and Kodiak) that donāt climb, because of their straight (as opposed to curved) claws. However, a Grizzly can still come up after you if the branches are spaced enough for it to climb it like a ladder. Of course, itās always best not to have to try to out-climb a bear in the first placeā¦
Mom is probably more worried right now than she is mad. But after she determines that Calvin is alright, then sheāll be mad. Dad may be called home, too.
There is a difference between discussing and preaching. Lew and Puddle (and whomever else) may discuss what they wish. If you feel you are being preached to, Iām sorry. But maybe āSomeoneā is trying to get your attention.
Iām thinking that, whether youāre a traditional Christian or merely āspiritualā, the difficult thing about forgiving (so that one can better be forgiven in return) is not that one must be strong enough.
The difficult thing is to surrender enough - to yield oneās own ego, desires, preconceptions, etc. Forgiving is letting go, not merely achieving by force of will.
It makes sense that yielding is a gift we give, which can earn a gift in return (although not necessarily the gift of our choice!).
