Welp, looks like Quill’s chosen the make-out flick of the summer… though I’m not sure he chose the right date… since they’re so adamant that it isn’t one!
You know, I don;t think that Mr. Quill is really as awkward and shy as he’s PRETENDING to be. Our young Heroine should be wary. I for one don’t TRUST this guy.
so much talk about the “lap girl” when actually her and the blond girl are the sweetest of all the couples, the rest are simply kissing or PRETENDING they are NOT on a date in one case :P
I agree…I went to TONS of movies with my BF as a teenager and never ONCE did I sit on his lap!!! Maybe this is just exaggerated a bit to show the awkwardness between Luann and Quill??
true Jen, it is extremely rare but not impossible to see that in a regular movie. But at same time………… taking aside the “locker room mentality of some guys” and their “imagining” the reason for his smile; they are actually the sweetest and “more realistically IN LOVE” couple, while most of the others seem more in the “kissing game” type of thing(kiss might be meaningless)…………………………. Greg just wanted to showcase the “difference” between the others and Lue and Quill’s game of “pretending not to be on a date, as we scared of Quill’s time to go back Down Under”….. Greg could have easily shown all couples hugging and cuddling instead of having 3 of 5 kissing, and had been more “realistic”
Daniel Craig is on the screen. The boys in that theater should be in the middle of their man crush – which is good, since every girl in the theater would be watching Daniel Craig move.
I WAS thinking that the movie they mentioned did NOT seem like it would be much of a date film. On the other hand, when I left the drive in, I could seldom say what the movie had been about.
You don’t go to matinees eh? When I came in once, midway through the movie, I saw a girl bouncing on a guys lap. I don’t want to know what they were doing.
Professor it is a comic strip not a docmentary sit back and enjoy the strip. We had drive inns in my day and a lot going on during the movie those days. Even have a drive inn theater in Kettle Falls WA. still open during the summer.
My dating experience is mid-sixties. The movie theatre was for watching the movie, holding hands and/or putting your arm around your date/girlfriend’s shoulder. The drive-in movie was the old “passion pit” where all the heavy “necking” (and “petting”) went on. I doubt very many of us teens could tell you much about the movies we “saw” at the drive-in.
Me either. I am an avid movie goer and I’ve never once seen this kind of thing in a movie theater. I see a couple of two teens smooching and necking but not like it is depicted in those panels. At drive-in movie, probably, as vehicles provide more privacy. This kind of activity is very distracting and as an avid movie goer, I know I would speak with management to put a stop to this kind of activity. I paid to watch a movie, not the sexual activities in the audience. Perhaps during Greg’s time when he was a teen, that was what they did. Because adults did not go to movie generated at teens.
Sally Forth has a 12 year old version of much the same story. Well done IMO. But the movie bit was tamer..At least I think they are 12. The boy is in town only for the summer, but is not Australian.
Well, the scene is probably not meant to be taken entirely literally. Of course the entire audience does not consist of perfectly paired teens making out. But there are enough of the latter that it feels that way!
I didn’t find “Cowboys and aliens” to be really smooch material, although I must admit it could’ve been different had I gone just with my wife instead of with more friends.

In my HS days (50s), we went to drive-in movies to make out (where speakers clipped to the car windows)- so you had a lot more privacy.

Look at the grin on the Feather’s face in panel two. I for one will celebrate when he exits this strip. One manic grin (TJ) is more than sufficient.

Thus far, Luann and Quill, though repeated arms-length kissers, have not done any cuddling at all.
Time to make up for lost time. Only need a little tweaking of the rules to allow it !
Time to tweak !

Though they are not on a date
They both feel it must be fate
Their eyes meet, they share a kiss
It doesn’t at all seem amiss
Slowly his hand slides beneath her top
She makes no move to make him stop
Carressing there her smooth soft skin
He hopes soon will be in like Flynn
With low moans and an audible gasp
The prize is almost within his grasp
His moves are smooth, his delivery slick
He won’t even have to use the popcorn trick
Suddenly, they both are drenched
The passionate fires have been quenched
Coke and ice, their ardour did smother
Courteously provided by her big brother
He sought to enjoy a show
With no work at which to go
Young lust in the bud was nipped
The rest of the movie could be skipped
He’ll take them home, parents will never know
Just how far they were about to go.
Thank you, RinaFarina and Ladyfingers86.
