Dinner and a proposal at Weenie World, of course.
DaJellyBelly over 12 years ago
I put forth the idea of dinner and flowers in my comments on 3/27. /// Even with TJ’s chicanery and tomfoolery, he is still a basically a decent person. He cares about what happens to his friend Brad. Because he appreciates what Brad has done for him, ie: taking him into his house. /// But the idea of saying “April Fool” if she rejects Brad’s proposal is definitely wrong. Brad’s reply should be, “Okay Toni, but keep it in mind. This offer has no expiration date.”

It is so crazy, IT JUST MIGHT WORK!

If Brad takes TJ’s stupid advice, Brad is the April fool. If someone proposed to me and then said “April Fools”, the relationship would be over. Toni doesn’t want their relationship to be treated like a joke.

Crazy plan. Making a marriage proposal (to the woman he actually loves) an April Fool’s prank is bound to have unforeseen BAD repercussions.
JoeStoppinghem Premium Member over 12 years ago
I’d agree with the comment above, is Brad ready for marriage? But definitely, definitely do not say, “April Fools.”Toni would think that Brad doesn’t feel that way for her.He does and she knows, but for that moment…
Mordock999 over 12 years ago
Hmmmm.
Its NOT going to WORK because Brad’s gotta ask his Mom’s PERMISSION to Marry Toni.

Pretty well everyone has a very definite opinion one way or the other.Mine: bad idea. She says yes is the only win, but that is a high-risk gambit. She says no which provokes the response “April Fool” will not make her look too smart. Forgetting Valentine’s Day AND calling her a fool is two strikes. (That’s Baseball parlance.)
imbaldeagle over 12 years ago
Brad doesn’t seem all that convinced that it’s crazy. Bad vibes about this. I don’t think that Toni will be thrilled about his April Fool joke. Don’t listen – don’t tell!

In a way TJ is correct—his plan is absolutely outrageous (but then, you know how TJ is).

If Brad actually goes through with this, then Toni needs to show up holding a squirting bouquet of flowers.

I agree with Ralph. It’s so Brad.
ArtCreator over 12 years ago
No, you couldn’t say April Fool’s if she says no. You would make it seem like you don’t really love her, and this whole thing is a joke. Brad has actually learned from being a slug 2/3 of his life to understand that.

Although I do want to see Brad and Toni engaged- (fun story line) Nobody wants to hear “April Fools” after a proposal! —That is so wrong!
Chuck373 over 12 years ago
If Brad actually goes with this idea, this will be the end of that relationship. This is TJ’s stupidest plan to date.

I wonder if this will go something like in “Cathy.” Irving thought he’d ask and Cathy would say “No,” and Cathy thought Irving would never ask, so Irving asked Cathy “will you marry me?” and Cathy said “Yes.” Then they both cried out, “You cheated!” and fell into each other’s arms. In the next Sunday strip they were engaged.

Didn’t anyone notice Toni didn’t get angry or upset because it wasn’t that big of a deal for her? I like the idea of the purposal on April fools day. Toni would appreciate the fun in it and frankly WE NEED A NEW STORY LINE!!!!!
mgstoked over 12 years ago
But then, toni will think that it’s like all a joke and he’s not serious about their relationship.
LordDestroyer over 12 years ago
Amazing plan? facepalm More like “stupid”, “idiotic”, “half-witted”, “dopey”, and “vacuous”. I’ve seen some of TJ’s ideas put into action before, and more often than not, they backfire like Acme products in the hands of Wile E. Coyote.
mojitobaby over 12 years ago
Since neither Toni or Brad belong to a culture where 1) the woman lives at home under her parents’ protection until she marries, or 2) her parents choose her mate for her, that’s sort of beside the point. This is no longer the 1950’s, where a woman segued from living in her parents’ home to living in her husband’s home, with no independent status, career, or tattoos, in between the two. This is most definitely not Toni. .But to answer your question: since the ring is presented (and hopefully given) to the person who’s actually going to be entering into the contract, rather than her parents, and since I own stock in DeBeers – no. .Look, there are a lot of matrimonial “traditions” that started out reflecting ownership of property centuries ago, but most of them, such as the bride’s father “giving her away”, have been reduced to empty ceremony. Dowries, bride-prices, and the husband having the right to return the bride to her parents if she’s barren, thankfully have not survived..As for that “formality” of asking your girlfriend’s parents’ “permission” before you ask her – yeah, it can be seen as charming and diplomatic, but it’s not really a formality, is it? Because if they say “no”, are you going to slink off and never see her again? I think if you actually have to ask someone’s permission to get married, you’re too damn young to get married.. It also be seen as everyone else, except the woman who it will matter to the most, knowing before she does. Let me ask you – if your wife found out she were pregnant and told her parents first, your parents second, and then finally told you last – how would you feel?.I actually do know someone who did this. BIG mistake. The mother insisted on seeing the ring, told the guy it wasn’t worthy of her little girl, insisted he upgrade to one she liked. The guy was dumb enough to think this was going to make everyone happy and complied. He presented ring #2 to his girlfriend, who actually didn’t like it. And when he compounded a round of bad decisions by telling her that her mother picked it out, was furious that it wasn’t really “her” ring and that it had her parents’ (well, her mother’s, really) fingerprints all over it..So be careful who you involve beforehand.

Proposals of marriage shouldn’t be the center of an April Fool’s joke! BAD IDEA! BAD! BAD!
mojitobaby over 12 years ago
Respectfully, it should – if “chivalry” means you’re being regarded as a half-wit who’s incapable of making any responsible decisions for yourself and therefore in drastic need of protection under someone else’s leadership. All while being put on a pedestal, of course. .What neither chivalry – nor feminism, for that matter – should obviate is respect for someone as a person in their own right, rather than just an appreciation for them as an object, bankroll, or a piece of property. (see: Dirk/Tiffany)

mojitobaby over 12 years ago
One is not required to be chivalrous toward chattel, M’lady.
Like hell, m’lord. Dude, chivalry was a medieval institution – of course women were treated as chattel under it! Sorry to disabuse you of the notion, but a chevalier’s wife was chattel, no matter how noble their station in life – she had no say in any decisions, she owned nothing and had no rights. What everyone sort of forgets that when the knightly class was running around in tin pants showing respect for the ladies they adored by unhorsing and dueling with their enemies to demonstrate their prowess, courtly love demanded that the pedestal they put their ladies on remain unbreached. The damsels they did those deeds for were meant to be admired from afar, and any consummation ruined the purity of the ideal. Sort of explains all those jousting matches and even a crusade or three – excessive testosterone is a bitch. .So unless you’re simply talking about holding open doors and calling everyone in a skirt “ma’am”, adapting the life of the preux chevalier to modern times is going to lead to massive conflict in this area, since an exaggerated sense of pride being the source of one’s honor (which is what the code was based on) means you can never let anyone do anything for you without losing your alpha-dog position and discrediting yourself in your woman’s eyes. Hence the lovely phrase, “no wife of mine is going to work” – the implication being that would mean to everyone that you can’t provide for your woman and are lacking as a man. .Sort of hard to have a real partnership in a marriage when that sort of raging insecurity is going on in the background.Bikerchickk over 12 years ago
Hmmmmm, I may try this on my old man. I like it. That is scary lol

True. There was an Iranian woman here in Phoenix who was killed because her fiance asked her father for permission to marry her and her father denied him….the daughter went ahead and married him anyway…and was killed for it. The father said she dishonored him and the family. Presently he is serving a life sentence. The judge berated him that Iranian traditions do not hold up in America – he did not own his daughter and cannot kill her because she was his property.

Actually, the only one with “mood swings” is Brad. Toni hasn’t said Word One in reproof – he’s the one who’s freaking out with no prompting from anyone..BTW, it never fails to amaze me that the guys who are the first ones to cry “mood swings” are invariably the ones who have PMS 24/7/365.

LOL! I think Dave’s spoken for, but since he seems to be an honorable, caring man who appears to regard his partner with respect and equality, I couldn’t ask for more than that, and I could certainly do a lot worse. I like Dave, he seems an OK guy..Of course, if he asks my parents first, he’s fricken’ toast.

TJ has already told Toni to tell Brad that she’s pregnant… April Fool, Valentine delinquent.
Terrywoebegone over 12 years ago
I can see this is fraught with peril. TJ isn’t considering that she may flat out say no, which Brad would be devastated by. She isn’t ready for marriage yet. Especially when her primary concern in life is a dysfunctional niece. Bwad also isn’t ready to be full time surrogate dad. This can’t end well. Unless Greg truly is in la-la land.

this might be just my take on this, but i don’t think any girl/woman wants a marriage proposal tied into an april fools gag.
