TJ: "Just hear my idea, ok? You take Toni for a nice dinner on April Fool's day. Then - ready? - You propose!" Brad: "Propose? Like marriage? TJ, she doesn't want to talk -" TJ: "Hold on. That's the beauty! If she resists, you just grin and say, "April Fool!" But -what is she DOESN'T resist? Huh?" TJ: "Excuse me? I didn't hear you say, "amazing plan!!" Brad: "Crazy plan" TJ: "No - amazing..."

It actually might be a win/win situation.

smsrt almost 13 years ago
TJ⊠Have you not realized that if she jumps on it then youâre out a home, bro. New thought?
ZacBSM almost 13 years ago
HmmmmâŠ.not too bad, actually, TJ. Learned from your past backfires? Improving upon your past mistakes.
bikenboatn almost 13 years ago
Thatâs whatâs scary: it makes sense.
Rakkav almost 13 years ago
That is one plan I wouldnât try under any circumstances.
lance96816 almost 13 years ago
Tjs plan just might work, the weenie world plan is working nicely
tigre1 almost 13 years ago
And theyâll double with TJ and Annie the KnifeâŠ

Geez, talk about extreme make-up â how âbout next year you just put a big olâ star on the calendar on the 14th of February.

Dinner and a proposal at Weenie World, of course.
DaJellyBelly almost 13 years ago
I put forth the idea of dinner and flowers in my comments on 3/27. /// Even with TJâs chicanery and tomfoolery, he is still a basically a decent person. He cares about what happens to his friend Brad. Because he appreciates what Brad has done for him, ie: taking him into his house. /// But the idea of saying âApril Foolâ if she rejects Bradâs proposal is definitely wrong. Bradâs reply should be, âOkay Toni, but keep it in mind. This offer has no expiration date.â
The Nihilist almost 13 years ago
Are either them ready for marriage?
chris_weaver almost 13 years ago
It is so crazy, IT JUST MIGHT WORK!
rmleon almost 13 years ago
If Brad takes TJâs stupid advice, Brad is the April fool. If someone proposed to me and then said âApril Foolsâ, the relationship would be over. Toni doesnât want their relationship to be treated like a joke.
JerryTheK almost 13 years ago
THIS IS A COMIC. TJ / BRAD / TONI. Itâs all Greg one manâs ideaâs.
cacaorock almost 13 years ago
Itâs not a bad idea. Might boost the strip.
JerryTheK almost 13 years ago
I do like Gregâs April Foolâs Comic. idea.
Sisyphos almost 13 years ago
Crazy plan. Making a marriage proposal (to the woman he actually loves) an April Foolâs prank is bound to have unforeseen BAD repercussions.
JoeStoppinghem Premium Member almost 13 years ago
Iâd agree with the comment above, is Brad ready for marriage? But definitely, definitely do not say, âApril Fools.âToni would think that Brad doesnât feel that way for her.He does and she knows, but for that momentâŠ
Mordock999 almost 13 years ago
Hmmmm.
Its NOT going to WORK because Bradâs gotta ask his Momâs PERMISSION to Marry Toni.
And Nancy HATES Toni Daytona.
So THERE.
Besides Smiley. Shouldnât You be at Weenie World, TORTURING Annie Effiel and Selling Hot Dogs TAINTED with Pink Slime to the UNSUSPECTING Masses???
ILikeMeSomeComics almost 13 years ago
This is going to end SO BADLY!!!DONâT DO IT!!
Ottodesu almost 13 years ago
Pretty well everyone has a very definite opinion one way or the other.Mine: bad idea. She says yes is the only win, but that is a high-risk gambit. She says no which provokes the response âApril Foolâ will not make her look too smart. Forgetting Valentineâs Day AND calling her a fool is two strikes. (Thatâs Baseball parlance.)
imbaldeagle almost 13 years ago
Brad doesnât seem all that convinced that itâs crazy. Bad vibes about this. I donât think that Toni will be thrilled about his April Fool joke. Donât listen â donât tell!
prasrinivara almost 13 years ago
In a way TJ is correctâhis plan is absolutely outrageous (but then, you know how TJ is).
SoItBegins~ almost 13 years ago
If Brad actually goes through with this, then Toni needs to show up holding a squirting bouquet of flowers.
johnjohn4321 almost 13 years ago
I agree with Ralph. Itâs so Brad.
ArtCreator almost 13 years ago
No, you couldnât say April Foolâs if she says no. You would make it seem like you donât really love her, and this whole thing is a joke. Brad has actually learned from being a slug 2/3 of his life to understand that.
ArtCreator almost 13 years ago
Brad was busy, and againâŠ.. not all girlâs like Valentineâs Day.
Airman almost 13 years ago
This is romance Russian Roulette.
Doctor11 almost 13 years ago
Dumb idea.
reedkomicks Premium Member almost 13 years ago
Terrible idea. Go for it!
Airman almost 13 years ago
More interesting: Have TJ pull that stunt on Ann!!!
vgreear1 almost 13 years ago
Although I do want to see Brad and Toni engaged- (fun story line) Nobody wants to hear âApril Foolsâ after a proposal! âThat is so wrong!
Chuck373 almost 13 years ago
If Brad actually goes with this idea, this will be the end of that relationship. This is TJâs stupidest plan to date.
Kathe almost 13 years ago
BradâŠDO NOT do it. TJâs ideas back-fire. You remember that donât you?
sjsczurek almost 13 years ago
I donât know which is weirder; T.J. and his ideas, or how seriously we all (myself included) are taking this comic strip!
tototu almost 13 years ago
âbout time
cubswin2016 almost 13 years ago
I wouldnât listen to any of TJâs plans.
sjsczurek almost 13 years ago
I wonder if this will go something like in âCathy.â Irving thought heâd ask and Cathy would say âNo,â and Cathy thought Irving would never ask, so Irving asked Cathy âwill you marry me?â and Cathy said âYes.â Then they both cried out, âYou cheated!â and fell into each otherâs arms. In the next Sunday strip they were engaged.
cdemattos almost 13 years ago
You donât fool around with proposals.
Thehag almost 13 years ago
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid idea.
unique_ness26 almost 13 years ago
TJ would be such an entertaining room mate.
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
I like your plan a LOT better than this one.
stimwink1 almost 13 years ago
Didnât anyone notice Toni didnât get angry or upset because it wasnât that big of a deal for her? I like the idea of the purposal on April fools day. Toni would appreciate the fun in it and frankly WE NEED A NEW STORY LINE!!!!!
mgstoked almost 13 years ago
But then, toni will think that itâs like all a joke and heâs not serious about their relationship.
LordDestroyer almost 13 years ago
Amazing plan? facepalm More like âstupidâ, âidioticâ, âhalf-wittedâ, âdopeyâ, and âvacuousâ. Iâve seen some of TJâs ideas put into action before, and more often than not, they backfire like Acme products in the hands of Wile E. Coyote.
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
Since neither Toni or Brad belong to a culture where 1) the woman lives at home under her parentsâ protection until she marries, or 2) her parents choose her mate for her, thatâs sort of beside the point. This is no longer the 1950âs, where a woman segued from living in her parentsâ home to living in her husbandâs home, with no independent status, career, or tattoos, in between the two. This is most definitely not Toni. .But to answer your question: since the ring is presented (and hopefully given) to the person whoâs actually going to be entering into the contract, rather than her parents, and since I own stock in DeBeers â no. .Look, there are a lot of matrimonial âtraditionsâ that started out reflecting ownership of property centuries ago, but most of them, such as the brideâs father âgiving her awayâ, have been reduced to empty ceremony. Dowries, bride-prices, and the husband having the right to return the bride to her parents if sheâs barren, thankfully have not survived..As for that âformalityâ of asking your girlfriendâs parentsâ âpermissionâ before you ask her â yeah, it can be seen as charming and diplomatic, but itâs not really a formality, is it? Because if they say ânoâ, are you going to slink off and never see her again? I think if you actually have to ask someoneâs permission to get married, youâre too damn young to get married.. It also be seen as everyone else, except the woman who it will matter to the most, knowing before she does. Let me ask you â if your wife found out she were pregnant and told her parents first, your parents second, and then finally told you last â how would you feel?.I actually do know someone who did this. BIG mistake. The mother insisted on seeing the ring, told the guy it wasnât worthy of her little girl, insisted he upgrade to one she liked. The guy was dumb enough to think this was going to make everyone happy and complied. He presented ring #2 to his girlfriend, who actually didnât like it. And when he compounded a round of bad decisions by telling her that her mother picked it out, was furious that it wasnât really âherâ ring and that it had her parentsâ (well, her motherâs, really) fingerprints all over it..So be careful who you involve beforehand.
sunsohot almost 13 years ago
Bad idea Brad. TJ needs his own relationshipâŠhas anyone suggested he date Crystal? That could be interesting.
fruegade almost 13 years ago
never make a proposal a jokeâŠ. NEVER
fruegade almost 13 years ago
but great scheming, Greg. You keep making people all upset!LOL
HouseApe almost 13 years ago
Not gonna work. April 1st is a Sunday and everyone knows Greg doesnât continue story arcs on Sunday toons.
This is a test almost 13 years ago
Proposals of marriage shouldnât be the center of an April Foolâs joke! BAD IDEA! BAD! BAD!
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
Respectfully, it should â if âchivalryâ means youâre being regarded as a half-wit whoâs incapable of making any responsible decisions for yourself and therefore in drastic need of protection under someone elseâs leadership. All while being put on a pedestal, of course. .What neither chivalry â nor feminism, for that matter â should obviate is respect for someone as a person in their own right, rather than just an appreciation for them as an object, bankroll, or a piece of property. (see: Dirk/Tiffany)
kenhense almost 13 years ago
BradâŠâŠNo! No! No! No!
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
ROTFLMAO! What, no better living through chemistry?
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
One is not required to be chivalrous toward chattel, Mâlady.
Like hell, mâlord. Dude, chivalry was a medieval institution â of course women were treated as chattel under it! Sorry to disabuse you of the notion, but a chevalierâs wife was chattel, no matter how noble their station in life â she had no say in any decisions, she owned nothing and had no rights. What everyone sort of forgets that when the knightly class was running around in tin pants showing respect for the ladies they adored by unhorsing and dueling with their enemies to demonstrate their prowess, courtly love demanded that the pedestal they put their ladies on remain unbreached. The damsels they did those deeds for were meant to be admired from afar, and any consummation ruined the purity of the ideal. Sort of explains all those jousting matches and even a crusade or three â excessive testosterone is a bitch. .So unless youâre simply talking about holding open doors and calling everyone in a skirt âmaâamâ, adapting the life of the preux chevalier to modern times is going to lead to massive conflict in this area, since an exaggerated sense of pride being the source of oneâs honor (which is what the code was based on) means you can never let anyone do anything for you without losing your alpha-dog position and discrediting yourself in your womanâs eyes. Hence the lovely phrase, âno wife of mine is going to workâ â the implication being that would mean to everyone that you canât provide for your woman and are lacking as a man. .Sort of hard to have a real partnership in a marriage when that sort of raging insecurity is going on in the background.Bikerchickk almost 13 years ago
Hmmmmm, I may try this on my old man. I like it. That is scary lol
ZacBSM almost 13 years ago
THAT I like â will certainly give Brad a pause. Lol.
ZacBSM almost 13 years ago
True. There was an Iranian woman here in Phoenix who was killed because her fiance asked her father for permission to marry her and her father denied himâŠ.the daughter went ahead and married him anywayâŠand was killed for it. The father said she dishonored him and the family. Presently he is serving a life sentence. The judge berated him that Iranian traditions do not hold up in America â he did not own his daughter and cannot kill her because she was his property.
Popeyesforearm almost 13 years ago
Should have sold him the XXtra large BS like at WW.
legionbuck43 almost 13 years ago
As Spock would sayâŠeminently logical⊠but Brad better have a ring when he does this !
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
Actually, the only one with âmood swingsâ is Brad. Toni hasnât said Word One in reproof â heâs the one whoâs freaking out with no prompting from anyone..BTW, it never fails to amaze me that the guys who are the first ones to cry âmood swingsâ are invariably the ones who have PMS 24/7/365.
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
LOL! I think Daveâs spoken for, but since he seems to be an honorable, caring man who appears to regard his partner with respect and equality, I couldnât ask for more than that, and I could certainly do a lot worse. I like Dave, he seems an OK guy..Of course, if he asks my parents first, heâs frickenâ toast.
Xsia almost 13 years ago
HmmmâŠ
doverdan almost 13 years ago
Bad idea unless she accepts⊠then yells April Fool!
Airman almost 13 years ago
TJ has already told Toni to tell Brad that sheâs pregnant⊠April Fool, Valentine delinquent.
Terrywoebegone almost 13 years ago
I can see this is fraught with peril. TJ isnât considering that she may flat out say no, which Brad would be devastated by. She isnât ready for marriage yet. Especially when her primary concern in life is a dysfunctional niece. Bwad also isnât ready to be full time surrogate dad. This canât end well. Unless Greg truly is in la-la land.
sfknight almost 13 years ago
this might be just my take on this, but i donât think any girl/woman wants a marriage proposal tied into an april fools gag.
A.Ficionada almost 13 years ago
I know someone like TJ w/ this kind of stuff. JUST SAY NO. Please! IRL, too! Ha!
melmarsh9v almost 13 years ago
This comic is unpredictable, and that is one reason why I love it so much. It keeps getting better every day, just as much as âZitsâ gets more and more putrid (especially today).
melmarsh9v almost 13 years ago
TJâs good intentions about bringing Brad and Toni closer together may possibly split them apart. I really wonder where this storyline is goingâŠ
melmarsh9v almost 13 years ago
Looking far into the futureâ I wonder what is the policy of the fire department concerning employees being married to each other.
TerBer almost 13 years ago
So STUPID on so many levels.
Ellen Gwynne almost 13 years ago
ButâŠwhat if SHE says yes and then says April fool?

I knew it!! I actually predicted that in yesterdays strip!! amazing, i must have the power to see the future or something⊠lol
roderickyoung almost 13 years ago
âToni, will you marry me?â
âOh YES, Brad!!â
âReally?â
âApril fool!â
kmidam almost 13 years ago
That is actually the day I proposed. I figured that only fools get married so April fools day would be the perfect day. Happily married for 22 years, now.
tegm almost 13 years ago
Oh, I canât imagine what could possibly go wrong with this planâŠ
