Ox: "I'll have board one" TJ: "You mean item one?" Ox: "No. All the stuff on the first board" TJ: "Oh!" Ox: "I always eat at burgerbox. Never been here before" TJ: "Well, my friend, you just earned out king customer crown!" Ann: "Those are for kids!" TJ: "He just spent $148. The crown cost a cent. Do you have ANY business sense?
DaJellyBelly almost 13 years ago
This woman has no business acumen whatsoever! Sheâs chastising TJ for giving the guy a 5 cent promotional item, after he spent over a hundred bucks.
DaJellyBelly almost 13 years ago
BTW, that guy looks like OX from a few weeks ago.
gimmickgenius almost 13 years ago
Yeah, I wondered if thatâs Guntherâs new BFF.
SideshowStarlet almost 13 years ago
Is that Ox?
wiselad almost 13 years ago
Ox must stay strong, needs to protect the QB and Gunther
FatTonyBalducci almost 13 years ago
I wonder if Ox knows where to stick the food
Ron Dunn Premium Member almost 13 years ago
The guy just spent $148.00 you think she would be happy.
SideshowStarlet almost 13 years ago
Itâs the first customer TJ hasnât tried to upsell. If TJ had unleashed the full force of his salesman skills, Ox (assuming thatâs Ox) would have ended up buying everything in the restaurant.
DaJellyBelly almost 13 years ago
Also, the guy said it was his first time at WW. You can see in the last panel that he likes that WW appreciates his business! Most likely, he will become a regular customer.

Leviticus, I took your advice, and began reading âLuannâ from the start. Iâm up to 1996. Itâs a delightful comic.

How in the world did Ann ever become the manager of Weenie World? TJ is right; she doesnât have the business sense that God gave to that one-cent paper crown!
princecharmeing almost 13 years ago
would these two just kiss and get it over with
ZacBSM almost 13 years ago
Ox is bbbbaaacccckkkk. Chanting chanting chanting for him to be casted into Luann crew.
dunner99rok almost 13 years ago
TJ better watch out. Heâll soon find himself manager⊠area manager⊠regional managerâŠ
whayle almost 13 years ago
I am pained by the fact that she did not want him to have a crown. I have a business selling customized stuff. I have little non-customized items that I sell for a few dollars, while most of my items sell for $35 or more. Most customers spend around $100 or so. When they say âOh! I forgot to add that little non-customized item to my order. Can you just charge my card?â I say âNope! I am throwing that sucker in for free. Heck, maybe even two if I am in a good mood!â

Fusnr almost 13 years ago
and that was just a snack, wait till dinner and he takes everything on all the boards.
jeff_e almost 13 years ago
Ox must have a protection racket going to drop that kind of money on fast food.
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
Thereâs a lot of misinformation out there about so-called frivolous lawsuits â anyone can sue, that doesnât mean the court will hear you. Some suits, like ones against Dennyâs, McDonalds, and schools that canât enforce a policy to save their lives, are jsutified â and some arenât, like the CA father whoâs suing his sonâs school for kicking him out of his AP classes even though he admitted to cheating..Donât forget a lot of tort reform lobbying that includes circumventing 7th amendment rights and caps on personal injury damages is being funded by corporations who also want to avoid their share of âpersonal responsibilityâ. Try suing a health insurance company that denied you coverage that you actually paid for and should have received, with the result that your health is permanently impaired, if you truly want to see avoidance of responsibility in action. .Better to give Ox his order (if he has the means to pay for it) rather than refuse for no good reason and face a well-deserved arbitrary discrimination suit.
Coinguy almost 13 years ago
not very realistic or do big eaters normally spend $148 on lunch

Dabit almost 13 years ago
More irrational stuff. $148 will buy a lot of weenies & buns at the grocery store.
sarge112751 almost 13 years ago
If Ox bought from ALL boards (because I guess heâs got an APPETITE!), theyâd have to close for an âEmergency Restockâ, and Annie would complain about THAT !
Sisyphos almost 13 years ago
Iâm not sure whether this guy is actually Ox, though he certainly looks like Ox. But, regardless, TJ has converted a very profitable BurgerBox regular to WeenieWorld for life, if Annie Awful doesnât mess up. Get a clue, Miss Failed Management!

TJ has just made (if not) beat Ann in monthly sales . $148.00 in a single sale is alot of money to a fast food place. I am sure TJ will be noticed by upper management now. Bye Bye Ann.

Whee. Any Eye-full is gonna get her clock cleanedâŠshe needs a strong laxative.
Kydex29 almost 13 years ago
Not sure why, but I have this sense that the saga will end not in vengeance on Ann Effel, but in her coming around. Thereâs a reason sheâs like this, and if TJ and Co. get to the bottom of it she might just change for the better. Call me nuts, but something about the way Greg draws her makes me think she hasnât entirely lost her humanity.
Doctor11 almost 13 years ago
No she doesnât, TJ, so keep up the good work.

Just letâs see her try to take the crown away from HIM. Sheâll likely lose an arm up to the elbow.

Itâs nice to see the Burger Box get some free advertising. I used to love to eat there when living in Arlington. Those Box Burgers were some of the best around and the fries were good also. Been awhile since Iâve been back but I believe theyâre still in business.

And heâd definitely go with the flow. Smart guy, that Ox.

mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
âAnnaâ represents nothing of the kind..There were abusive and harassing bosses under the âoldâ management, which actually used to reward good work and keep its employees to retirement age. There are abusive and harassing bosses under ânewâ management, which is vested in keeping you at consultant level so it doesnât have to vest you in the company, give you any benefits and can kick you to the curb when you reach your 40âs..âNewâ isnât always âbetterâ â and Eiffelâs abuse isnât welcome or productive in any well-run business.

kenhense almost 13 years ago
Ann is just a compulsive micromanager â she canât help jumping in â no matter how trivial. I had a boss like that once (but not nearly as good looking). Now â back to how Ann is going to learn to relax.
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
Sure they would. Fast food places exist because thereâs a need for them, and theyâve been around since ancient Greece and Rome. .Regardless of how you think everyone should live their lives, people donât carry their kitchens with them when they travel, so are often away from home at breakfast, lunch or dinner time. Some people donât have access to a working kitchen where they live. For others, packing a meal is impractical. Because people also work away from home and have a limited lunch break, they need someplace fast (and cheap) to eat, since their bosses take a dim view of setting their desks on fire to grill a burger. Some are such lousy cooks that they burn water, and some never learned. .And I can guarantee that if all the FF franchises vanished from the earth overnight, the supermarket price of buns and burger meat would triple, so that it wouldnât be so much of a bargain any more.
BeretDude almost 13 years ago
I think TJ is setting Ms. Tite Butt up for the kill. Soon, he is going to announce that he is leaving, and she will be beside herself to keep him. Next, she will soften and they will become an âitemâ. I mean, look at her? What cartoon character isnât going to want to tap that? ;)

so I guess the big guy who saved Gunther from the bully is going to become a regular character now. He must have some job to be able to afford $148. worth of food!
kenhense almost 13 years ago
@BeretDude â My idea is one morning Ann gets in late â with her clothes not so neat â and TJ says (smiling) âWelcome to Weenie World.â (probably as far as we can go).

Why assume Ox is only buying it for himself?
Airman almost 13 years ago
Hope all these days of nasty remarks and the parade of customers is just the build up to unleashed passion in the back room. Of course, that never happened with Rosa & Gunther and they, also, went through many days of build up with the bully arc. For some reason, Greg always sticks a pin in the balloon. Cue Mick JaggerâŠâI canât get no satisfaction.â
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
Define your terms. If by âsocial parasitesâ you mean people whoâve been injured through a companyâs negligence and look to the courts for redress, then thatâs bullshit. If youâre talking about the woman who snuck her coworkerâs severed finger into a bowl of Wendyâs chili and tried to get $$ for pain and suffering, thatâs accurate. And there are far more legitimate claims for liability that go nowhere than there are ripoff artists who succeed. .And it cuts both ways â companies can be just as parasitic when it comes to corporate welfare, and I mean that in both senses of the word. Does yours have a âdead peasantâ life insurance policy on you so that it, rather than your family, will collect benefits when you die?

mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
Do you ever see the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode where Larry sent an obituary for a âfavorite auntâ to the paper â and was blamed by everyone because the paper perpetrated a truly unfortunate typo?
xall2h1 almost 13 years ago
It shouldenât take $148 to feed a man.
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
Aww, thanks! But you should both know that my favorite movie is Breakfast at Home Depot.
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
Heh â you actually wouldnât. Typical British manufacture â looked gorgeous, but the engineering was for sh*t. Dad had an XKE and the sports suspension was horribly stiff â you felt every imperfection on the road, it was impossible to keep the front end in alignment, and Dad realized he was going to need a kidney transplant if he kept on driving it. Also, the wire wheels had a tendency to go out of round â and no, Iâm not kidding. Why else do you think Harold sent it over the cliff at the end of the film? ;D.

@Mojitobaby & BrdshttI have been unfaithful to you â Running around and commenting on other strips. I am sorry. Perhaps I will be back to my old silly and inane self by tomorrow and perhaps not. You never know about those perhapses. Please forgive me.
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
An ex-boyfriend is an A&P/IA aviation mechanic â you should hear what he says about the BAE-146âs electrical. Total nightmare for wiring â basically, itâs the plane that tea-breaks built. .I laughed like hell in I.Q. when the snobby British professorâs (Stephen Fry) MG TF Roadster breaks down at the garage and Tim Robbins (who plays the mechanic), tells him: âYou have a Lucas type four generator on a 12-volt system, and you know the British. Theyâd rather spend time gluing wood on a dashboard than getting the electrical system right.â

I like your comment and think that it is right ON with the exception of a minor, but frequent spelling error. For those few who might not understand:The Peter Principle is a belief that in an organization where promotion is based on achievement, success, and merit, that organizationâs members will eventually be promoted beyond their level of ability. The principle is commonly phrased, âemployees tend to rise to their level of incompetence.â In more formal parlance, the effect could be stated as: employees tend to be given more authority until they cannot continue to work competently.

I love these more thoughtful strips & stories. Humor can come from life â and strips like this can help us go through our own lives, and challenges, with more smiles and less stress. Not every strip has to be a pun or a pratfall. Thank you Greg!
mojitobaby almost 13 years ago
What you said is that if everyone realized that buying buns and burgers at the supermarket was a better deal and would forego the convenience aspect, there wouldnât be a need for FF restaurants. The way I read it is analogous to saying that if everyone just realized that walking everywhere was cheaper, we wouldnât need to buy gas and thereâd be no need for the auto industry. Until weâre willing to wear a portable kitchen so we can cook a burger in the middle of Aisle 6, or weâre issued wheels instead of legs, weâll still need both.
Itâs not just âconvenienceâ â the way you presented it made it sound like people are either spendthrifts or too lazy to rustle up their own food, and thatâs not always the case. People travel all the time and usually canât cook in the back of the car or in their motel room â itâs not so much âconvenientâ as much as itâs ânecessaryâ. .FF franchises, BTW, are primarily clustered around schools, colleges and universities. Then comes bus and train stations, hotels, retail areas/shopping malls, hospitals and office parks/business districts.

i suspect any business sense ann has has been overwhelmed by her intense dislike of and equally intense attraction to tj. if all she cared about was enhancing her management profile, sheâd let him rake in the bucks without paying much attention. however she canât manipulate him, bully him and definitely canât get him to like her which infuriates her to no end. the reason tj gets to her so much is because he can. this is going to get interesting.
