One also has to ask, “who is watching Joseph F. Tracy?” My guess would be either Tess’s mom, or Sparkle Plenty-Tracy. I’m sure that is something that Dick isn’t happy about either.
Good Morning, Vista Bill, Margueritem, Tarry & all!Re: Who is the new Mr. Crime? – Blowtop is a great conjecture. Dale Christman suggested on 5/3 that it might be the Blank – another great choice. But after months of pondering, I have finally figured it out…the new Mr. Crime is Cheater Gunsmoke! Who Would Have Thought? Sorry, Mike & Joe, if I’ve ruined any carefully thought-out plans. (Offered with tongue thoroughly in cheek.)
So Tess has a ‘working relationship’ with a guy? And she’s obviously set off on this adventure without Dick’s blessing. What’s next? An affair? A Dick & Tess split? Sure, why not? They seem to be bringing the strip up-to-date in other respects, might as well get another dose of reality. :o(
Tess and Adonis have set up as PI’s?! And are being hired as insurance investigators to look into the death benefits on Vincent Vinyl when his body hasn’t been found yet? (Not that it ever will be, if he was Friday’s vine-food.) There are so many ways that this could become a sticky wicket for Dick Tracy!
Actually this development is not too surprising. Most of Dick Tracy’s family and friends have shown a flair for investigation (a polite way of saying they’re too nosy for their own good.)
ok, i need new glasses… i couldnt see johnny adonis’ name on the window until i enlarged the pic. i dotn think dick minds tess working with johnny.. johnny is a comrade and has worked plenty of times with tracy before… if anything he might be a little relieved that tess has johnny as “back up”.
So … the insurance company hired Tess & Johnny to investigate the disappearance of Vincent Vinyl because Mumbles filed an insurance claim before it was confirmed that Mr. Vinyl was dead … pretty dumb on Mumbles part. -“Don’t you just love it when they’re stupid.” ,,, Lenny Brisco.
I think folks are jumping to conclusions about Tess being a private investigator. Dick and Johnny Adonis founded the agency back in the 1980s after Adonis was fired and Tracy quit the force. Tracy went back to the force and Adonis continued to run the Tracy Agency. It seems to me that Tess is acting as a receptionist right now but who knows?
Too cool! Ya know I used to wait until I got into work on Mondays to catch up on the funnies but with the revitalized DT I can’t wait till then anymore.
Who is the person Mumbles is “befriending” in the first panel? I thought it might be Vincent Vinyl, but the nose is not the same as the picture in panel 2. And, is that individual sitting in a wheel chair?
First, Tess has shown her investigative skills several times in the history of the strip, though, admittedly, not much since the ’30’s..It was in that decade, during a case in which Tracy was pursuing the BIg Boy’s secret second-in-command, “Boss Jim” Herrod, that he used Tess in an undercover role..During Tracy’s tenure as Homeville’s police chief, which pitted him against the Famon brothers, he became a prisoner of Cut Famon. It was Tess, disguising her self as a truck driver, who discovered Tracy’s location and led Pat, Jim Trailer, and the other cops to his rescue.Nevertheless, she does NOT have enough paid experience as a professional investigator to be eligible to apply for a license in Tracystate (which is to say Illinois)..Johnny, who took over the agency (but kept the name) after Tracy returned to official law enforcement, is the licensed owner of the agency. Tess is employed, at least on paper, as an operative of the agency, though for practical purposes she and Johnny are probably working as equal partners..Once Tess has racked up a few years working as a detective in a licensed agency, she’ll be eligible for her own license.
@ boboscartotally missed the Killian era, sorry.I’d have liked seeing Dick receive a dose of his own medicine (remember their honeymoon, disrupted by their crossing Wormy Marrons’ bloody path? "Widowed on honeymoon, cried Tess!

What’s a Mumbles Quartet lp worth these days? And what could it’s title possibly be? “Baby, My Love For You Is Criminal”?

How does Dick feel that Tess’s partner is named Adonis?

Love the contrast between Teatime’s “classic” office and the Tracy Agency’s hi-tech one…

Trivia: The Tracy Agency was first seen on Dec. 25, 1982, with Tracy showing the building and office to Tess.
