In an extended epilogue, we continue the family theme once again as we check in on David and Stephanie, who are expecting their first child. As you’ll recall, David recently decided to give up his role as the “Cinnamon Knight” and train to join the police force.

Cinnamon Knight is a hottie without his costume! Imagine him in cop uniform!

Curtis Crossovers

At the request of Ray Toler, I’ve started taking notes on all the crossovers Curtis has written into the strip. I wasn’t taking notes of these when they first came out, so I had to start from scratch. I’m able to do this because I’ve taken on trying to read every single Dick Tracy story in the comic strip, alternating between reading Gould’s original strips (which I can read in my complete collection of IDW reprints), the post-Gould pre-GoComics period (which I can read in Newspapers.com) and the GC period. This is a WIP (Work In Progress) that will take a very long time for me to complete. In the meantime, I’ll post that WIP here on the same day I list GC stories, listing the year, then the titles of the stories in boldface and Ray and anyone else can use my GC list for cross reference.

IMHO, there are several different types of crossovers: characters from other comic strips, characters from other media outside comic strips (including characters that originate from Dick Tracy media outside the DT comic strip), real life celebrities appearing as themselves, and Written Around Trademarks (WAT) cameos from other strips and media. A WAT cameo is one where it’s never directly stated, so there’s room for plausible deniability, but it’s pretty obvious it’s this character.

Finally, I decided not to include characters based on real life celebrities but with different names, because I feel the changed names mean they’re not really crossovers. However, I will give honorable mention to the two most prominent such characters here, and the stories they debuted in: Jerry King (based on real life wrestler Jerry Lawler) who made his debut in the Thunderchild story, and George Tawara and his husband Brad (based on real life actor George Takei and his husband Brad) who made their debuts in the Sweat Box story.

CINNABON: WOO…oops. Speaking of “pre” – mature in this case. It looks like I’ll have to let you off with a warning again.

MID: sigh

I appreciate the refresher about story lines. Gives me a whole lot of catching up to do. Still I feel the resurrection of Mr. Bribery was a stretch. He met his demise in June 1967. Whoever was at the helm of this strip took “artistic license” too far. After all, I read where Gould got put on blast by the syndicate of this strip in the 1930’s for inserting his hand in an episode to get Tracy out of a tough situation. I believe Tracy was trapped in a cave. Gould had to get creative to come up with another alternative.

CK must be about to graduate from the police academy. Can’t tell from the angle in panel three but shouldn’t his lady had that baby by now?

Maybe the Cinnamon costume can be donated to a museum through a third party. In this way, temptation won’t be around the house to go back to it.

I suspect we’ll see hm one more time as CK. but something will convince him to never suit up again. (Oh! Am I givng the story away?).Just don’t kill him off.

A lot of readers thought he’d been written out of the strip for keeps;so when Tracy got back to Earth this wasn’t what a lot of us were expecting.

His girl is having a baby—-and so is Rikki Mortis;long overdue.

Never mind Attitude PLenty—-there should be a betting pool on what THAT kid is going to look like.

Will it be born with stage makeup on?

Does anyone know when the character of The Mole was written back into this strip? It would be about when The Mole has a romantic interest in a homeless woman with a child.

Don’t worry yourself, David. I have a Strong Suspicion that you will be the Cinnamon Knight again, at least one more time. —That is, if you appear in the coming story arc at all!

Meanwhile, Black Piranha/Stephanie will keep you cheery, even as the two of you await the birth of your new child….

SUPREMELY OFF-TOPIC: Who says Mondays are evil? I have paperbacks out today for FISH OUT OF WATER and OTHERWORLD, and I got the audio chapter of the latter in which the lead characters transition to the alternate world and get conned into ‘noble quest’. Hmmm…It appears that my storylist I posted here got erased. I contacted GoComics about this a week ago and have received no response, so I’m assuming it was just some accidental blunder on their part that they’re unable to correct. Fortunately, since this isn’t the first time this kind of blunder has occurred, I’ve come well prepared to correct it for them. I’ve kept a record of the one reply and the number of likes each post received, so I’ll be able to restore what was lost.
