Dream on, April! There is no way in that one hot place your parents will ever, EVER let you wear something like that, even if you somehow move to the Moon!
Todays day and age majority of kids are taught that they are owed, by their parents, gov’t and spouse, now Biden is teaching this to the Mexicans! What happened to work hard and live the American dream.
While my girls were growing up, I kept thinking that “this” year is my favorite year of their growth…and every year got better & better. The only thing I dislike is that we succeeded in raising 2 independent adults who are away at college now. I miss them horribly even though we keep in touch almost daily. Today we’re going to visit the younger one to take her out for birthday lunch (her 19th birthday was Wednesday).
Also there are some parents who never let their “children” grow up even though the “kids” are responsible grown-up adults. Pathetic! Don’t think the “kids” aren’t taking advantage of it all, either.
Said like a mom who wants to keep their kids small, tiny, and cuddly. If she would learn to celebrate their maturation process, she wouldn’t dread the process, but enjoy it.
Baby: What her children will always be to her even if they live to be 103.
Ethiopia: A place where children would be lucky to eat Elly’s bean meals.
Greatest Generation: Parents of John and Elly and all compatriots. Greatest because they dealt with the Great Depression and the Second World War.Grown up: An ambiguous term that applies when the Patterson children need to take on more responsibilities…but not when they ask for privileges.
Indecent: Any piece of clothing that reveals shoulders or a dress or pair of trousers that leaves the ankles exposed.
Noise: Any piece of music composed after 1969.
Respect: What the Enjo kids give their parents, and what John and Elly always gave their parents when they were minors.
Ripoff: Any cost associated with the clothing or schooling of Michael, Elizabeth or April.
Sixteen: The number of miles John had to walk to school.
I get really tired of the nasty, snarky and downright mean things that some of the regular posters say about a fictional character. What you post here says a lot more about who you are than who Elly might be.
John and Elly could lighten up. If Elizabeth ran around the kitchen in her birthday suit; Elly and John would be laughing and remarking “Look out, streaker on the loose!” or “Cutie nudie!”
After all, that is what they said when Aypo did it.
This strip should lighten up and remember April is not going to be a kid forever and Farley is not Snoopy. They should take advantage of this time to hide some walkie talkies and convince April that Farley can talk! :P

I remember when my dad got me a make-up kit for Christmas. I was shocked.

Most parents are glad their kids grow up—as long as they grow up to be responsible adults, as the Patterson offspring and their friends do.
But, not Elly! To her, the glass is ALWAYS half-empty!!

I had my very first make-up kit when I turned 13. I did not like it that much but it helped with special events

The little girl asks the bigger girl, “How long before I can wear one of these (bustiers)”? The answer is " A long time – (not until) April."
Since today is 2nd of March and April is only a month away, I hope they didn’t mean the little girl can wear the bustier a month from now!
Maybe wait a year or two longer!

Remember the Lego commercials with Zack? There was a funny spoof about him growing up
His grandma’s house is where he stays
It’s been ten years since he got laid
At 35 his life’s a wreck
Dependent on disability checks
He struggles with his mental health
After two tours in Iraq
Zack, Zack, he’s a psycho maniac

We don’t want her to get too frumpy and ugly, mind you. Her first name is Elizabeth, but her last name is not Warren.

For a good preview of the future that April is wondering about, click the calendar and go to the 4/2/2007 strip.
