When I was some 10 years older than April, I had an entire fantasy ranch (up in Big Sur) complete with several dozen horses, all with names, genealogies, detailed descriptions, and competition histories, which I carefully recorded in a notebook, complete with hand-drawn illustrations. It took me quite a few more years after that to finally own real, live horses: Marshal Tudor, son and grandson of English Triple Crown winners, in my 20s, and Charlemagne, descendant of Bold Ruler and Native Dancer (and grand-nephew of Secretariat) in my 40s.
according to Aug 31, 2008 strip, the last one, April will be a Veterinary … “April’s Folly” or “April’s Vocation”? Kids find their vocation in the deep of their heart! Life, economic status, the wrong ‘advice’ of adults often make them forget that strange beat they had that distant day in their lives. When you meet a good doctor, a good teacher, a good coach, a good priest or wisemen of any religion, a good plumber, a good cobbler … you thank God that they have not forgotten and built brick by brick life to feel their heart beating that way again.
Had the same dream when I was her age. Made my dream come true. My favorite was “Jarvis” Morgan with great personality. Now I have red with a white face called “Reacher”, why? Because he’s BIG and beautiful
I grew up in the City of Chicago. In grade school I had a friend who talked, read, and wrote about having a horse. Lost touch with her after high school and when Facebook came along and we reconnected I found out she was living on a small farm in Ohio with two horses, four dogs, and innumerable cats!
Little girls tend to be more “horse crazy” than little boys- I know I was! I wonder why there’s a gender disparity, so I asked Google. The answers are interesting.
Never stop dreaming, April. Make sure that horse is big enough to kick your mother and break her self-centered jaw. Those of you who’ve read the strips of April’s teen years will understand that.

Strips like this make me wonder how far in advance Lynn plotted the character’s lives
