When I was in college the cafeteria would take lovely chunks of beef and no matter what they called it, it was over cooked beef in tomato sauce. And dessert was most likely tapioca with pastel mini marshmallows. Toasted leftover hot dog buns rounded this gourmet meal. That was Mt. St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles in 1957.

I feel like I got spoiled. The lunches when I was in school were mostly edible.

But where is Wadsworth – (Tim Curry), Yvette the maid – (Colleen Camp), Miss Scarlet – (Lesley Ann Warren), and Colonel Mustard – (Martin Mull)?

I recognize Philip Marlowe, The Glass Onion (not as good as the original, but still fun), The Red Headed League, and The Orient Express. I’m not getting the Cobenhagen.

The unknown protein is acheta or ground up crickets.

Use fancy words and dress it up all you want, it’s still mystery meat.

I can never relate to these running gags about the questionableness of school lunches, considering the school district I went to always seemed to consistently provide pretty decent lunches. Last I checked, it still does now.

The dessert could also be Professor Plum pudding.

Is that better than mom’s PB&J lunch?…

In the mid-’50’s Army, we et what they handed us and we called it ‘good’.. Later assignment put ud in the Mid- East local economy with furnished apartment & maid service with plenty of sidewalk cafes neaby. Had a lot to learn coming back Stateside !!

Whomever figures out just what mystery meat actually is or what planet it actually came from should be awarded the Nobel Prize.

OK, I have a fun game. Who can find the strip where Paige gets her schedule for school, and what does it spell?

Is it possible the cafeteria lady of Paige’s school went to the same culinary school as the cafeteria man of Zack Hill’s school?

Yesterday, I watched Tasting History. He (Max Miller) had a recipe for a soup served for lunch in school during the Great Depression. It was tomatoes mixed with peanut butter. He actually made it and said it wasn’t very good.
