I think I may still have some tighty whities older than the internet. Maybe. But socks wear out in a year or so. As for trendy clothing: There are companies (and their victims) that try to surf the “absolutely NOW” styles… and they are harming the environment… among other problems. AND spending money on ephemera. Not a good choice.
Fast fashion is not only an environmental disaster leading to an insane amount of waste, a lot of it’s poorly made, and it’s also usually made in foreign sweatshops by people that barely get paid anything.
Last month we went to the neighbourhood Bar and Grill and I wore my Joe Cool T-shirt (à la Sheldon Cooper) and my college leather jacket… I don’t care what people think! My wife was a bit more self-conscious.
The young lady is confusing “fashion” and “style” ; the former one is “in” or “out of”, the latter one has or does not – and, for the most part, ne’er the twain shall meet.
The best way, by far, to approach the issue is understood by few of us not in the Monks of Cool (from Sir Terry Pratchett’s marvelous Discworld books); for the final test before they are allowed to take their final vows, they are led into an immense closet filled with all manner of garb and asked “What is the coolest outfit inhere?”
Part of downsizing to a new home, I have been going through my closet. The stuff that went to Good Will is what doesn’t fit or I just don’t like it. I don’t think there was much in there in the first place that isn’t old enough to vote— and came from Good Will when I bought it. Only one sweat shirt bought new, and it says “Finally Football in St Louis-1995”.

Old clothes are like old habits – some still fit better than others and feel good when we try them on.

This is a great time to go to YouTube or ask Alexa for This Shirt by Mary Chapin Carpenter.

If they don’t have holes, why wouldn’t you still have them? I never thought of socks as being “in” or “out” of style.

The answer, of course, is “Whatever I put on.”

That isn’t only true for fashionable clothes and accessories but seems true for electronic gadgets, too.

My mother had great style. She never looked “out of fashion.” She stressed buying quality clothes that could be worn for years.
