The bigger problems with night running are potholes and uneven sidewalks.

How did they not get hit back then? Reflective clothing.

I have seen Christmas trees running in the dark! and a giant rabbit and pink elephants, but that was at Easter season.

Mostly, we relied on situational awareness. I figured that the reflective stuff was just an expensive substitute for keeping you wits about you.I did buy reflective gear for cycling, but I had never encountered a problem since I started running in 1981.

Elf shoes with bells on the toes perhaps? Good the slower runners should hear you coming.

As a driver who has to commute home and run errands during these dark evening hours, I applaud these LEDs for safety. The first time I saw these outfits was a person walking their dog, and the dog was also decked out in the lights.

I’ve had too many surprises with cyclists and pedestrians dressed in all dark clothing with nothing reflective on them. I recently came up on a couple cyclists riding after dark and the only thing which tipped me off was the tiny reflectors on the backs of the bike pedals. That’s just not enough to risk your life on.

Good idea, Caulfield. And same for Miss Plainwell’s idea. Brighten the walk/run and the season.

I hate runners at dusk all dressed in dark clothing. They can see me, but it is very difficult to see them.

There are four women who walk in our neighborhood very early in the morning. They all wear hi-vis yellow vests and every time I see them I stop and thank them for it!

I take the bus to work very early in the morning before sunrise, and so I see quite a few joggers with their lights on.

They did get hit. I just barely missed one once in the eighties. It was night in an area without lights and the person was dressed in dark clothes. I barely had time to hit the brakes from the time that I could see there was a person there in my headlights so that the person was able to clear my path without me hitting the person. Yeah, the person was jaywalking (jay jogging?) and was not careful to cross when it was safe.

Actually, our pizza was delivered last night by a guy with a white ski cap with flashing Christmas lights all around the brim. (Yes, I do have a witness. NO, I was not drinking.)

I remember watching Star Wars The Bad Batch and they had those on them, I know it’s a show but Special Forces and others similar do not have anything that will give away their position especially lights. A friend who is a retired Navy Seal said that even toothpaste smell after you brush your teeth carries for some distance.
