I hope Nancy does go with, because Luann can be ‘overly enthusiastic’, and might keep pushing Toni toward a dress she can’t afford. Especially given the cost of fireworks…

Shannon doesn’t live with Toni and Brad, she lives with her father, Fishbait. Possibly this strip is on a different day than the one we’ve been following, and Shannon is back with her Dad.

Either that, or we are still on the same day, in which case Toni is calling from Brad & TJ’s house, while Shannon happily continues “remodeling”.

This is so sweet, and actually pretty close again as to what happens. The difference is here TJ gets to plan a lot of the wedding, and hopefully Brad will keep him from going over the top with the arrangements, but the wedding dress and the Maid of Honor, and her mom (since Toni does not have one anymore) are extremely important. It’s a ritual, at least in heterosexual weddings which iin my experience as the groom is almost sacred. I wonder how different or the same it would be in female same sex marriages, given they would want a traditional wedding dress. Or would they?. Anyone can spread some serious knowledge on that? By the way I bet Pru will come in somewhere to help. And also on a different but related subject, I must point out that who else would be a best man but TJ for those of you who raise this totally illogical subject? How many male friends of Brad have been introduced in this strip? There are males here, but only one constant best bud. Anyway, one awaits to see what will transpire with the dress, always a big thing.

Luann can’t decide what to wear herself half the time.

Wow, when was the last time we saw Luann? 2-3 weeks ago? Maybe longer? For being the title character she’s barely used any more. Her classes should have started again by now, but I guess there’s absolutely nothing interesting going on there. The author doesn’t seem to know what to do with her if she isn’t mooning over a boy.

Girls’ day out. Lots of “girl” things to do. Could be fun. Could be mischievous. Could be gossipy.

Yasss, I called this earlier in the arc… Luann will bring the enthusiasm that Toni so suspiciously lacks. Brad can drive them to the mall for old times’ sake.

It sure sounds like a yes…

I think Toni will choose a very modest, non-frilly, sophisticated dress. Not a “Cinderella” type.

Girl Time! a family necessity

4This could be an interesting development in the arc. I suspect both Luann and Mrs. DeGroot will be helpful and respectful in shopping with Toni for her dress. If Shannon goes, I also suspect that (at least for a while), she will be enamored with looking at the dresses, and will perhaps try on Flower Girl dresses as well. The one aspect about today’s comic to me, however, is Mrs. DeGroot’s “deer-in-the-headlight” expression in the last panel. Is it a) simply meant to indicate surprise and concern at Luann’s vague statement, or is it b) perhaps an indication of something more? If by chance it is “something more”, to my read of her expression, it may be a look of concern on her face if she already overheard Luann talk about wedding dress shopping. Perhaps Mrs. DeGroot is a bit nervous because there were a few times in the past when she and Toni did not see quite “eye-to-eye” and now Mrs. Degroot is thinking maybe she should not go shopping to avoid conflict…. or at the very least, she may be thinking she wants to be careful and be sure to be supportive of Toni’s decisions? But, in my overall analysis…. I suspect Mrs. DeGroot’s expression is more likely than not just a reflection about the vagueness of Luann’s statement.

I suspect that it is inevitable that Les will wind up causing theft problems at the wedding, so K2 Katering may well be there.Something oldSomething newSomething borrowedSomething blueI am curious about the something borrowed, and have before mentioned a money saving idea of one possibility.

Why the TJ bashing? Haven’t we all got ‘that one friend’ who just rides the edge?

I love Luann’s excitement over getting to shop with Toni for the wedding dress. Mrs D’s expression in my view is just a ‘what in the world has Luann so worked up’ and ‘what has she gotten us into now?’ look. I expect she will be more than flattered that Toni has included the two of them in her dress search. She does seem to be the frugal one in the family.

Hmmmm, speaking of convergence what if Shannon does go along and at one point Toni answers the color scheme question with “blue and white” only to have Shannon pipe up something like, “No, Aunt Toni, I told TJ gold and lime!” How many bugged out eyes will there be then?

BTW, Lime and blue look good together, both work w metallic gold, and the right foliage works, but w three colors perhaps already in the mix (and neutrals already there) the flowers and dress/accessory accents might need to be more carefully selected.

What happened to them getting married on 9/11?

I like seeing a burgeoning relationship between Toni and Luann. The Archivists can tell me how long or even if this has been developing. The two have much to teach each other, I suspect. I also suspect Karen is contributing more to this story arc than Geg…

Let the go-girl bonding begin.… and let the frustration begin.… and let Nancy’s offer of her dress save the day!

In this strip, Toni reveals she has no close friends her age to go with her. Her hesitancy in asking Lu and Nancy indicates she is also fearful of even their rejection. This marriage will be so good for her!

I enjoy the ways they are showing that a great beauty should not be assumed to have an easy life. Steve and i have three friends who could be called great beauties, one a scream queen, one a past national beauty queen and VJ in a different nation, one a past major model. I will not say which but one had a very difficult life and one a quite difficult one early on. All worked out just fine, but you woukd be amazed how many people equate unusually good looks with good luck and a very active social life. Stereotypes…

She’s not picked out the dress yet? Isn’t supposed to already be married by now?

It’s really sad that Toni seems to have no actual friends of her own and must latch onto Brad’s family. Though in spite of the fact that the character of Luann causes me much eye-rolling, I’m happy for Toni’s sake that she has someone so eager to spend time with her.

Luann’s first appearance in — what? — a month!

Patsy was trying a new recipe and asked me afterward if I liked it enough for her to fix it again..I just showed here where I had just finished licking the pot clean. (anybody can lick a plate clean, pots require tonguemanship).She decided to take that as a yes.

My take on Nancy’s expression is that she knows what Luann is all excited about, is excited herself, sort of a sudden delight, and behind it is looking forward to doing the wedding dress picking. Besides it would be good practice if Luann asks someday. She is not scared or frightened. She knows her daughter by now. Greg should have drawn Puddles running in the room as well. That little pooch has a good bead on his mistresses moods.
