Wow Lu! you sure are not judgemental at all. And Borenice, you better not have a smart look on your face. Somehow Tiff came out on top here. You allowed it.
Looks like Greg is renewing the old Tiffany vs. Luann rivalry. Just when you thought Tiffany was starting to mature and was becoming more considerate of other people’s feelings. Didnt she get Luann’s money back from Ann Eifel’s lingerie scam?
Reminds me of a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt: “Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people.” Maybe these characters would find that their lives might get more exciting and worthwhile if they didn’t spend so much of their time complaining about Tiffany. And for all her faults, I bet she doesn’t constantly talk about them behind their backs like this. She has better things to spend energy on than obsessing over perceived slights by her high school nemeses.
And I’ve said this for a while: the conflict between the two is due in large part to the fact that they’re WAY more alike than either of them would care to admit.
I believe it was Luann that sang a song called “I’m A Snot”. Speaking of Luann, her comment counts here on the board are nothing compared to the arcs with Tiffany in them. Here are the numbers, The last two days with Luann:
Sept. 4 / 134 comments
Sept. 3 / 148 comments
Now, let’s look at the arcs with Tiffany in them:
Aug. 20 / 294 comments
Aug. 21 / 243 comments
Aug. 22 / 227 comments
Aug. 23 / 301 comments
Aug. 24 / 198 comments
Aug. 25 / 214 comments

This follows the same pattern as in the past. Tiffany raises the interest in this strip significantly, I’ve made my case.
I’m disappointed in this lunch date. Get off Tiffany and get on with discussing what’s going on with your friends and family, The Fuse, college courses, mentoring Faye. Anything but being steamed with Tiff.
For all who are so eager to join a herd that wants to sink claws or fangs into a particular ‘toon character: I just wonder how many of you, in your lives, if you had a person who had been a thorn in your side periodically before, would act so kindly under these circumstances? If your ’frenemy’ showed up at your workplace, took over a session you had previously planned, and then lectured you about your alleged faults in front of a group you work with or supervise, would you be overjoyed? Doubt it.
I remain disappointed that this is the turn of events, though. I had hoped that Luann would have been telling Bernice about her discussions with Jack about his possible future career direction, and that this discussion had triggered Luann to begin more serious consideration of her own future. Move forward. Moving on successfully is the best response to those who continue to bring pain from the past into the present.
I would find it easier to believe that Tiffany was “accepting” of her “new plus body” if it wasn’t the result of locking herself in a room for a few months and binge-eating.
This is kind of a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Luann is reacting to her bff about a gratuitous comment about her, a negative comment as well, made by Tiffany, within their frenemy relationship. Luann is a comic character, but in this comment section she, and other characters are subjects of a lot of projection, and I understand that, harmless. I mention that because those who are so critical of her comment in the second panel should ask themselves if they are without sin? Be honest. To me I want to see what else is coming. There are a lot of arcs to comment on, and Tiffany is in the middle of a lot of them, maybe all of them. I argue it all started with the TV being stolen at Mooney U, but some might argue that it began with Souffle. Lets wait and see before passing judgment.
Looks like the “big breasts on sweetness” suggestion flopped.Once the conversation switched to Tiffany, both decided to have the house salad… dressing on the side.
I had hoped this arc would involve a more wide ranging discussion about all that’s transpired since their last gabfest. And it still may. (Hope springs eternal.)
While what Luann is doing (griping to her friend, Bernice, about what Luann is p.o.’d about) is perfectly legitimate, normal, and typical behavior between friends… to me it is about as dull as watching beige paint dry because it is just a rehashing of last week….. which was not my favorite story arc… because neither Luann nor Tiffany did much of anything other than act immature and inane while attempting to “out-compete” each other to win the affections of a boy. Both Tiffany and Luann are better characters than they were allowed to be last week.
The only glimmer of hope is in Bernice’s hands at the moment…. I hope she keeps attempting to steer Luann away from her current focus…. for our sakes.
@GOGOPOWERENTITY: Bernice isn’t a hypocrite, you say. Guess you haven’t been reading very long. We had to suffer through several arcs of Bernice the RA yelling at your beloved Tiffany about letting Gunther stay in her dorm suite a few minutes beyond curfew when Gunther was tutoring Tiffany. Meanwhile, your other beloved, the unhypocritical Bernice, was letting Piro sleep overnight in HER dorm suite. But I guess according to you that isn’t being hypocritical…

Luann, you deserve that smirk from your BFF. You are OFTEN judgmental. You need to be honest with yourself.

Face it…..we’re ALL judgmental. But at least we can keep it to ourselves.
howtheduck about 6 years ago
At least non-judgmental Luann is able to judge a smirk when she sees one.

Luann’s reaction does not make Tiffany’s holier-than-thou speech any more palatable. (And TeaFanny, spare us the requisite pep talk on cue.)

Then Bernice says, “Ox, I’ll have the ‘Greg 9-5’, medium rare.”
Then Luann says, “I’ll just have a soda. This table is too small to accommodate two plates.”

Luann? “Very accepting and Non Judgemental??” Uh Huh. Tell Us another one, Luann “Dearie.”
Bernice, you MIGHT wanna move your chair waaaaaay back in case a bolt of lightening should suddenly smite this young gal.

Luann knows she has said something and then the exact opposite and how much this is a mistake. I admire her ability to do self criticism.

But I am glad that sarcastic Bernie is reminding unctuous Luann that she is being judgmental in claiming she is not….
