I have to admit this apparent shift caught me by surprise. I was expecting more of a sharp turn towards on- line dating hilarity.

JUST F*** Already !

Wow, Gunther Just WOW! Not Bad for a “Nerd with Anger and Mommy Issues,” huh? And Gunny meant EVERY single word. And he’s felt that way about Luann since the 3rd grade!

Now, while we wait for the Naysayers and “Jack Lovers” to pick apart every word that Gunther said today, let Me just say that what Luann has done this week with Gunther is the equivalent of the Moon Landing 50 years ago. I mean, Gunther “Laughing?” That alone is Unheard of and worth the price of admission! Epic, even! Thank You Greg and Karen!!

So Luann? why don’t you and Gunther stare long and hard into each others eyes tomorrow and consider the possibilities of a lasting partnership? In the meantime, I’ll send Jack a condolence fruit basket.

Oh and Gunny? Jack is really a Very Nice Guy although a bit clumsy with a bowling ball. So don’t hold it against him that thanks to HIM, your future wife is going to walk around with a barely noticeable limp, for the rest of her life……, ;)

It is interesting how they are looking at each other in panel three. Hmm… I was expecting Gunther to wind up with Tiffany.

So … waiting for the other shoe to drop, the awkward gaze into each others eyes, the slow realization that they aren’t pretending, the tentative lean toward that first…OH! Hi, Les! Home early?

Oh, good grief, we’re going there…

Luann and Jack feel natural and cute; this is boring and forced.

Bounce! A Sub-second of consideration then back to normal Gunther / Luann relations. Must have been the longest sub-second in history.

Love their side glance at each other. Maybe a shot of reality setting in.

As with what Luann wrote, this comes across as kids trying to repeat the kindly language that they heard an elderly relative use. Both of them have written the sort of things someone says when they’re trying to compliment someone they’re not attracted to.

What these do have in common with real dating profiles is their dishonesty. :-) The Evans never show Gunther being “sweet and fun,” but rather critical and inflexible. They portray Luann as a shallow ditherer and don’t give her an opportunity to show any “true heart.”

Well… We’ve breached the touch barrier and we’ve entered the take-another-look gaze zone. Tomorrow will definitely be a cliff hanger. OR will our pal Les arrive and break the mood?

Luann has vacillated with her feelings for Gunther since the 1980s middle school years. While she’s been warm and tepid toward G-man, he has been hot and warm about Luann. The question is why are we presented with this episode at this time? Where are G&K taking the story? Does it involve: Gunther, Luann and Jack? Gunther, Luann and Les? It appears Tiffany is too distracted with Tom and Ann to get into the mix – but who knows? Or will it evolve into a Gunther, Les and e-dating? YIKES!

It’s strange how all this got started with Pru pushing Luann into a meet-up with Gunther over electronic device distraction! That was an off the wall contrivance to start an episode. Maybe G&K felt Pru was getting short shrift lately.

“Wow, Luann, you’ve got a response already! Lets see who… QUILL????”

And, he turns, they kiss, and we start a new adventure next week. not revisiting this for 2 months.. .

No Gunther and No Jack. Only Quill.

Best we can hope for is a little tentative experimentation. Gunther needs a nursemaid and Luann is not ready for Prime Time.

I wonder…will they end up together? Somehow, I doubt it. They’ve always been friends first, and I think it’ll stay that way.

There’s an interesting psychological principle that you can tell a lot about what a person really thinks from what they joke about.

People write their own profiles on dating sites. It would be weird to read one like Luann’s, where she refers to herself in the 3d person.

Nah. Gunther’s had a crush on Luann for a long time but Luann is the one that’s kept the from becoming a couple. Gunth just doesn’t light Luann’s fire. Without that, flattering words aren’t enough.

If they do a (good) kiss – I’ll look for Luann’s & Gunther’s pictures in the tabloids next week.

This does not sound like an ad Luann would post on a dating site. It sounds like an ad trying to sell something on Craig’s List.

Luann likes eye candy (Aaron, Quill, Jack) and certainly had chemistry with Quill. Gunther isn’t certain what he likes (Luann, Rosa, Tiffany), but the last two gals got more response from him.

I don’t think they are a great match and who really wants to settle for something safe? They are still learning and need to date more and different people.

I would really rather have Gunther find someone new for his girlfriend.

I also like Luann and Jack as a couple more than I believe I will like Luann and Gunther as a couple.

I also anticipate that if this happens as it seems at the moment…. we are going to have Luann enter a love triangle of sorts…. will it be Jack and Luann or will it be Gunther and Luann…. that is of course “classic” “hilarity ensues” I guess. But, I still would rather see Gunther meet and date someone new.

(sigh)

This is really sweet. They respect and care about each other. But I still see it more as a deep friendship rather than love.

Feel the heat!

“…smarter and more capable than she thinks she is….”. It would be nice if their profiles about one another helped each to navigate life more confidently with respect to the particular issue of low self esteem. In Luann’s case, I hope she will be more confident in choosing an area of study to pursue and major in. For Gunther, he will reach out to make friends (and girlfriends). The only problem is that they both consider it to be “pretend” (fake info), in which case they will each continue on with unchanged attitudes about themselves.

In the 3rd panel Luann looks like she is considering what Gunther has said about her. Both seem relieved in the last panel where Gunther affirms that these statements are just pretend; it takes the pressure off.

Come on back, Tiffany, your implants look fine just as they are.
