This is a very unusual Sunday strip. For once Greg is using the extra real estate for four panels so he can tell an actual story. Bernice and Luann are having an ordinary conversation, And Luann’s room is (for once) clean. Luann’s comment that she would record Gunther’s little math lessons is intriguing because it implies that he was in her room. We’ve never seen her with the cassette player anywhere but in her room so that must be where she recorded Gunther. And that sort of makes one wonder what else went on before and after the math lessons.
In each panel, Puddles is asleep. In the last panel, as Luann dozes off, Puddle suddenly appears to be wide awake. Could it be that Puddles gets excited by the math talk?
A new arc Monday would be nice. If it’s gotta be Lu & Bern at the dog park – we really need somebody else to show up and rescue us. Luann who is pushing 20 can’t think of anything fun but the dog park?
You know? I once wondered whether Luann kept any of those old tapes she made back in the day. Looks like today, I got my answer. Lu really should play them back from time to time to gauge how much she’s grown from a gawky middle schooler, to an attractive, sensitive, caring young woman. And who knows? Maybe one day, Luann’s daughter might enjoy listening to those tapes, too.
But FIRST, she needs to catalog and back-up ALL of those tapes to CDs. And then preferably back those up to a good 6Tb external SSD.
Oh. And I almost forgot! I’m JAZZED that Luann KEPT a little “token” of My favorite Nerd! ;)
Math. Better than any type of sleeping pill! This is a great sign about how the situation has change because Bernice now is living in Luann’s house. Now Bernice is not sit on the floor, but is walking looking around Luann’s room. I love how Luann is cuddling Puddles at the beginning and the expressions she and Bernice have at the end. Totally hilarious ♡.
Clean room? Easy, it takes less effort for the artist to draw all the clutter. Then use close ups and poof, out to the golf course. Less work, more play.
Bernice never noticed all that stuff before? She’s been in that room hundreds of times. It would have been better if Bernice had said I’ve always wondered what’s on these old cassette tapes of yours.
Let me put my education chops at play here in this very nice and complete four panel set today: Luann’s use of a cassette library, which is fascinating given how long cassettes have been passe as technological phenomena, would indicate she is an aural learner, someone who learns by an hearing modality. Of course her interest in art and drawing makes her also a tactile learner, who likes to touch and experience her learning experience (there is another modality I can’t think of right now). Bernice is a read-write learner, she loves to read, experiences her learning through books and print. Two entirely different methods, but whatever gets the job done. Greg you have to idea of learning modalities, and personalities profiles! Using the MMPI, Luann would be an E type, outgoing personality, while Bernice would be an I type more introverted personality. Opposites attract!
If something ever happened to Luann’s tapes, no problem. She can catch up by listening to veteran composer and vocalist Debbie Gibson’s Mixtape Show every other Friday afternoon on Sirius XM.
Luann’s falling asleep is a peek into her future: Enough with this “learning” stuff. L. will get her A.A. degree, marry Jack (who will be picked in the football draft) and be a good homemaker and mother. We already know how good she is with kids.
Luann needs to work on her MRS degree, since a STEM degree or STEM career is not in her future. She needs a Jack, a Quill , and a Gunther blend to marry, a home similar to Degroots and children to be happy. Bernice can be a child development psychologist/sociologist.
Did Luann keep the tape in case she needed a math refresher, or because she forgot about it, or because she wanted a little reminder of good ol’ Gunther?
Oops! This Sunday strip is not the one in my paper this morning. Since it was diferent, I went back to look at the date on the strip in the paper. I have NEXT SUNDAY’S strip in today’s paper. I’m glad I looked to see the comments or I wouldn’t have noticed the wrong strip had been printed.
I realize Luann started in the 80s and it’s taken 3-4 decades to do what’s about 7-10 years or real time, but if she were doing cassettes and mix tapes she’d have to be at least 35 if not 40 now.

if Luann has cassette tapes she made, which hasn’t been a popular thing to do for 30 years, does that mean she knows she’s in her 40’s?
