What’s the difference between a politician and a flying pig? The letter F. What’s the difference between a cop and a bullet? When a bullet kills somebody, you know it’s been fired. What’s the difference between a hippo and a Zippo? One is really heavy, and the other is a little lighter.

Today’s strip tells me that Luann and Bernice have received subpar educations.

    More funding for public schools!

A mule is the offspring of a donkey and a horse. A male donkey and a female horse, specifically.

Um, the joke is that LuAnn told Nancy the name of the game, and Nancy thought that LuAnn was telling her, “What’s the difference what we’re doing?”

Lets see…a missile is a rocket used as a weapon. (normal rockets just have a destination, like just go up and go boom or to orbit..)..Nectar is a combination of juices…mules are the cross between donkeys and horses…hue is a clear color compared to a opaque one…a casket is a fancy coffin…I’m perplexed and confused on the last one.

missiles have guidance systems, rockets just follow an arc.

Nectar is produced by flowers, juice by fruits and vegatables.

Coffins are wide over the body and narrow at the feet. Caskets are rectangular.

When no longer under power. a rocket is merely a missile. A thrown rock is also a missile. An arrow in flight is a missile. A bullet between expelled from a gun and striking the target is a missile.

Now, when considering ballistic missiles and non ballistic missiles…

Looks like Nancy might have a touch of menopause to follow up those hot flashes she told Bern about a while back. Happens to the best of ladies as they enter later middle age but then again she could be fed up with Luann for a multitude of reasons.

The English language has roots in two distinct language subgroups: Germanic/Scandinavian (through Viking invaders and Anglo-Saxons) and French/Latin through Norman conquerors. So often there are two words, one Germanic and one Romance, for the same thing.

I noticed a few comments above concerning the differences about missiles and rockets. Well I would say the V2 “rocket”, designed by one Nazi known as Verner Von Braun of Operation Paper Clip infamy, which terrorized London circa the early 1940’s would answer any questions whether a rocket or missile are different. Vocabulary does not kill, evil and power hungry people do.

Okay, the first one I had to look up: Missiles can only fly through air, but rockets can fly through air and vacuum.

My guess on the second is that nectar—as a beverage—is sweeter and thicker than juice. Now looking it up…in some ways the opposite. Juice is pure juice, whereas nectar can have other stuff added, including diluting it. But it can also have sweeteners and other additives.

Third one. I know that one! A mule is the child of a horse and a donkey. A donkey is the child of a donkey and a donkey.

Fourth: Hue is the specific place in the spectrum where a color belongs, but a color can be a pure, lightened, darkened, and/or muted versions of that hue.

Fifth: Coffin and casket I learned from watching “Ask a Mortician” on Youtube (hilarious channel—I recommend it.) A casket is rectangular, whereas a coffin has extra angles at either shoulder, spreading out and then tapering towards the base.

Sixth: I think this last one is more subjective than defined. Confusing seems a bit more intense than perplexing. Perplexing describes an interesting mystery to puzzle out, whereas confusing feels more uncomfortable—things don’t make sense and it’s wrecking your day.

A lot of us are wishing, hoping or praying that a new story will begin come Monday. Back in the high school days of “Luann” one did not sense /know that a new story was beginning because it was Luann all the time (except when it wasn’t) Plots ended or were replaced with new plots seamlessly because all the characters were in the same place (school). Interacted with the story as needed and so on. Today (the college years) the cast has been atomized. Luann was retired to occasional character. Bernice went to college, Tiffany went to h3ll, Gunther found Bets. Each of these characters now inhabit their own universe. Luann and Bernice do not interact with Tiffany. Likewise Bets and Gunther largely exist in their own stories. There is no flow from character to character, each is ab abrupt change of time and space. There is no synergy from having their characters react to each other. None of the characters in the strip currently are very interesting. They need to bounce off each other to round out their personalities. ""Luann" currently is three – four disjointed, unconnected stories. Not one of which has been very satisfying.

It seems that the friendship between Luann and Bernice is back to being as good as it was during high school and the early days when Bernice was in college. I know Sundays are mostly separate from what happens weekly, but even there, they are back talking to each other and shopping together and Bernice actually seem to listens to Luann. That’s a great thing ♡.

    What’s Nancy so “upset” about?

The gals told her the truth.

Now if Nan REALLY wants an eyeopener, she should ask the youthsters “What’s the difference between Right and Wrong?”

So…. did I miss the “GoComics Memo”? It seems perhaps a week to two weeks ago the words “h3ll” and “h3lluva” now get caught up in the “bad language” algorithm…. twice now these words prevented my comment from posting.

Not the biggest deal in the whole d*mn (apparently that word too, I just found out) world, but it was an odd surprise after they both being fine and acceptable for many years.

A missle carries a payload of explosives for detonation, whereas a rocket is only for space exploration. Nectar comes from flowers and juice comes from fruits or vegetables.

I did some reading up on it because I’d never heard the word “nectar” used to describe a fruit drink for human consumption—only as a food for butterflies etc. it seems “fruit juice” is 100% juice and nothing else while a “nectar” or “fruit nectar” may also contain added sugars and artificial flavoring etc. They don’t sell “fruit nectar” around here so I wasn’t familiar with it. I think I’d rather have old fashioned fruit juice!
